Hello couchsurfers in Arkansas!
I'm coming to Little Rock to film a social experiment called "The Truth Is". It's an international art project which started in 2004, with over 5000 people participating in it all over the world. (www.thetruthis.org)
I was wondering if you can point me in the right direction to find spots in the city where I could find locals to film them on the streets. I'm looking for people of different backgrounds, ages, and race.
Does your city have a favorite locals destination? (What time of day is it best to visit for filming).
Does your city have artistic area (hipsters, etc)
Any tips out recommendations are truly appreciated!
Thanks so much.
come on up to northwest arkansas, you will really like eureka springs... lots of cool things and people to film there... I commute to work there from about 30 miles away, my fiance works in Springdale and it is only 15 miles away... bentonville is close as well and has an excellent new art museum which might be a nice place to film for your project... farmers markets... always some festival being celebrated in Eureka... would like to help with your project for a few days if you plan your trip around my work schedule... cheers mate,
Howdy, I lived outside of LR for a few years, here is my best thought:
The best place to go in town is the river market area next to downtown on a Saturday morning/afternoon while they have the farmers market, this has lots of people out and about. The river market has bars, shops, clubs, parks, jogging trails, street performers, vendors, concert venues and is usually the most lively part of the city, but being in Arkansas even this area can sometimes be quiet.
Last time I was there (4 1/2 months ago) they also had a semi-permanent Occupy Little Rock group that at the time had been there for 6 months and had about 10-15 tents with a dozen 24/7 occupiers. This was located in a parking lot between 5th and capitol, directly west of I-30. I visited a few times and they were very nice people, with alot to say!!!
Also in Conway about 30 minutes out of LR, are some colleges, specifically Hendrix is known for its hippy/hipster/green minded student body.
As far as the state goes, the university of Arkansas about 3 hours from LR would have alot of the hipster types, if you go there then Dixon street is where all the public bars/hangouts are.
As previously noted the state as a whole has alot of nature and on a pretty day the hiking trails get alot of traffic.
good luck man!
