Hi CSers,

I meant to write thispost for a while now. Bettina and I traveled to Datong few weeks ago and we met a nice man there that showed us around the city for two days. He is a former English teacher / own taught tour guide / worker. He was very nice with us and brought us to some very nice places which aren't in the guide books. He does it obviously for money but it isn't very expensive and he speaks very good English (well knowledgeable on Chinese history).

So, i told him i would let people know about him coz i think it can make your trip to Datong much more interesting. I asked him to tell me what he can offer and he wrote this:

i did ask him for an email but that seem to be something foreign for him (understood he didn'thave one) ...

there are train tickets boots all over the city so no need to go all the way to the station and wait the long queues ... however it is true that buying a ticket the day before might be hard ... if you have someone in the city that could buy one for you .... let's say this Saturday ... (4-5 days before) it'll be the best ...

Bj to Xian is a good 12-14 hours
Bj to Pingyao or Datong is about 7 hours
