Homedinner set-up btwn 15-25Apr
Posted April 15th, 2013 - 4:38 pm by from Amsterdam, Netherlands (Permalink)
Hi y'all.

I just arrived in town and thought I'd bring some life into this homedinner/kitchensurfing/cooksurfing initiative.
I've organised literally hundreds of dinners in the Amsterdam area [https://www.couchsurfing.org/group.html?gid=10983], so I'm certain we'll manage to get at least one cozy night at an intimate location going while I'm here.

====== This is what I need: ======
★ folks willing to open their kitchen, being able to welcome anything btwn 7-20 participants at their home;
★ potential cooks;
★ and of course attendees.

Rules of thumb here are that the host is exempted from all cooking and cleaning endeavors. Cooks do all preps together. Attendees do dishes. I make sure the costs get divided equally (±1500HUF pp) in the end. And everyone has fun.

Please reply to this post to demonstrate your enthusiasm. I'll create and post a Meeting Display once date(s) and location(s) are fixed. Any questions? Eager but apprehensive to open your house? Then drop me a line. I'm sure we can work it out.

Hi Ramón,

I think we could organize a cooking event at my place. My kitchen is ok size and the living room where we could eat is quite big :-)

At my place 8 people can have a meal comfortably. Ususally Sundays would be convenient for me for such events.

Okay, fantastic, thanks for your replies, everyone.
Great that you're both willing to offer your place, Barbara & Ervin. That I appreciate. Finding someone willing and able to open up his house often proves to be the most difficult part of setting up a dinner.

DINNER ASAP PLS
I acknowledge how it's usually most convenient to have folks over during wknd nights, but I'm hoping a 1st edition can take place on a working day this week. That is bcs:
(1) I hope to be horseback riding with Christin [https://www.couchsurfing.org/profile.html?id=5GXINSTQP] this wknd (anyone else most welcome).
(2) the enlightened self interest of obtaining myself couches through meeting people asap.

# OF ATTENDEES
To my experience, for a number of reasons 6 is too small a group (but thanks Ervin). Eight is perfect. That said, one little shack can fit a lot of tame sheep: a little improv and you'll be surprised how many people your kitchen/livingroom can handle.

But, for now first we need fixed dates, locations, and more attendees.

Just for reference's sake, I've cross-posted a similar thread in the "Budapest Group (official)"[https://www.couchsurfing.org/group_read.html?gid=7429&post=14374944] + Budapest Area thing [https://www.couchsurfing.org/n/threads/budapest-budapest-hungary-hi-y-all-i-just-arrived-in-town-and-thought-i-d-do-my-part-in-bringing-some-life-into-this-local-community-i-ve-organ] yesterday.

i am also in. i can host it. i do not remember how many people were at my place almost 2 yrs ago on a lovely summer day for cook surfing but around 10. i have one table around which 6 ppl can sit but there is a sofa and another desk (if i remove my pc et caetera) and the floor :)
but i can go as a guest dishwasher (i am not really a cook). in any case, i can only host/go next Tuesday (23rd) or Thursday (25th).
thx for the initiative!

Hello Ramón and everybody,

We can gather and cook at my place on 23 or 25. Now I checked again and if you bring 2 more chairs then 10 people can sit down comfortably :-)

Hi All,
I'm happy to join as a cook, unfortunately I cannot host. I'm free on 22-25 nights, so if the event happens on one of these nights I'll be there. Brigi

Hello,

in general...

...I am interested :)
...I can host quite a lot of people for such an event
...I can cook or bake - different kinds of things, but as my family is Transylvanian I am good at that eggplant thing, we should wait for the summer though for the season and ideally grill it...

in particular...
...I cannot host during the week at the moment, as I have classes until 8
...but I am very happy to join or one time host at the weekend

Did you agree on a date for this time?
:)

Thanks for your summary, Irén, but no need to assist me in the actual organising process. This nerd uses a nifty spreadsheet that I developed especially for these kinds of things. Otherwise I'd go nuts with information overkill.

Hi Guys,

I would offer my place but not yet.Because it is the garden of apartment building where I live.Still cold outside to cook!

But in some weeks I am organising something.:)Until I would join this event - anytime good for me.

Hi, I would like to join this event, because I find this idea relly exciting. For now I could be an attendee/cook, because my flat is too small for this amount of people. :-)
Friday, Sunday, next Monday and Wednesday would be perfect for me. Please let me know in a private message if you have decided about time/place. Thank you, bests, J.

"I hope Ramón has got an overview about possible locations and dates"

Not to worry, I have everything under control. Let's see: you were able to host a dinner for 30 people, right?

Absolutely perfect! :-)

Hey everyone!
Kitchensurfing sound interesting! Unfortunately I have no kitchen to share, but would be happy to share my cooking skills :)
The rest depends on the details (where, when)..

You gotta love the new Events section. In order for everyone to be able to stumble upon our homedinners as easily as CS makes it (grrr), I had to create double Meeting Displays. I'm sure Dinner Hosts will be entertained having to keep an eye on both.

So here's what's on for the period that I'm still in the neck of your woods. I would rather have had it spread over time instead of all clogged together, but only this way most folks would get to live out their enthusiasm.

PLEASE everybody, be careful with the events, stupid CS website mixed up some dates,
The events take place: 22nd, 23rd and 24th (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday)

see Ramóns update

Please IGNORE that the URLs mention different dates than the titles and calendar-dates of the events. It is an annoying error of the new CS-Events system.

Barbara had to cancel her location for the Wednesday 24Apr homedinner I had scheduled there [https://www.couchsurfing.org/group_read.html?gid=30478&post=14374909#post14383033].

It means I am now diligently looking for a new location. Would anyone be willing and able to take it over from her?
