Hi,

on Saturday friends from Central European University organize a biking tour. It's supopsed to be 22 degrees and sunny, soyou are welcomed to join as well as the others :)

Here are detailed info:
This upcoming Saturday we will take to two wheels and cycle one of the most stunning sections of the famed Danube Cycle Path that meanders from the source of the Danube near Basel to the Black Sea in Romania. Our 40 km journey will take us from the edge of the dormitory belt of Budapest to the Danube Bend, with unobstructed views of the towering Pilis and Börzsöny hills seemingly rising out of the river below. We will begin our ride in Göd, passing through the quaint Baroque towns of Vac, Veroce, Kismaros, Nagymaros, Zebegeny, and finally Szob. As we peddle past Veroce, one of the highlights of the trip will be a view to the approaching castle of Visegrad on the other side of the Danube. We can explore several of these picturesque towns (of course with a cup of that famous Nagymaros red pepper hot chocolate in hand) along the way.

More information on the biketrail: http://en.eurovelo6.org/rubriques/gauche/the-stages/vienna-budapest

Don't have a bike? No problem. There are multiple options for finding a bike suitable for a 40 km ride.

The CEU Sustainability/Bike-Share office has kindly offered to loan out a few bicycles for the day. If you are interested in this option, please send a message to bicycles@ceu.hu to request to use one of the CEU Bikeshare bicycles. Supplies are limited and will be loaned out while available for this day.

There are also many bicycle rental shops in Budapest. Bicycle rentals are generally around 2500 HUF if returned on the same day. A sample (bikebase is particularly close to Nyugati from where we will depart on the train):

Difficulty: Easy-medium

Itinerary:

Saturday, 12 October

Meeting time: 10:30 AM Nyugati train station (outside by the front entrance of the station near the 4/6 tram stop), please be on time, as it will take us some time to purchase train tickets, particularly given that we must also purchase bicycle tickets.

Train departing time: 10:57 AM to Nagymaros

Cost of transportation (including both you and your bicycle): around 1500 HUF roundtrip with a Hungarian student ID card (2400 HUF without an ID card, additional discounts with Budapest monthly transit pass. If you do not have a Hungarian student ID, other discounts might apply [33% youth discount if you are 26 and under]). Only purchase a one-way ticket as we will return from another station.

Please wear comfortable shoes, bring a lunch, and take plenty of water.

Hello Sarah,

I use to cycle myself, have a few tours behind me in Europe and Middle East. My program for weekend is still flexible, on Sunday I'm free for sure and if i are still here we can cycle somewhere and show you around.

Cheers,
Zolee

For me it's quite unclear yet what should I do on Wednesday.
But a ride from Budapest to Szentendre, have a coffee and sightseeing and ride back may prove to be a good idea. :)
No train, no additional costs.
There is bikeway so it's also safe.

Hi Lazslo,

is it like 23km? I cannot do that much cause I had knee surgery so I'll see how I could do this. I can only do like 10 - 12km :(

We can pick for the suburban train (HÉV) in backwards.

well, I dont want to keep the whole group/other people. So i can combine biking with the train.

btw also next week-end (Saturday) seems to be nice so if more people would be interested in week-end then we could do that.

Honestly, Saturday is totally out of scope for me and Wednesday is also a big question mark.
But I can organize it.

ok, then let me know what are your options on Wednesday. As I said at the moment I have my physical limits so if we can sort out plan, it would be nice. if not, then we can try another time :)
