Bus from US to Canada
Posted July 30th, 2012 - 2:00 am by from Torun, Poland (Permalink)
Hi all CouchSurfers from Maine,

Can anyone tell me if there are any bus connections from Maine to Canada (Quebec)? I was trying to find one but I couldn't.
Please help me.

Hello, Jacob. Maine is woefully lacking in direct land connections to Canada. I believe there is a Greyhound bus from Portland to Montreal, but it might very well connect via Boston. In other words, you have to travel south before you travel north. There are no direct bus connections from other points in Maine to Quebec. A real bummer.

"Oops, sorry I misspelled your first name!" - No problem - in the U.S. I use the English version of my name.

Do you know is it possible to cross the border with Canada in Armstrong Border Crossing on foot? Then I could use a hitchhiking to travel from Bangor to Québec and then in Canada to use the bus.

Hi, Jakub. I'm sure you can cross on foot. People living near the border have always done this, for shopping, visiting and other reasons. I would think it's even easier and faster to cross on foot, because you'll have no vehicle for the authorities to inspect. Let me know if there are other ways I can help you out.

Hello Jakub:

There is a border crossing in Jackman, Maine, too. Just moved up here a few years ago.

Not sure how much help but check the internet if you have access to it.

Generally the public libraries in the towns have FREE internet access.

The librarians may be helpful to you with travel plans.

Some may be and some may not.

Good luck.
