Teaching English in Shenzhen
Posted September 6th, 2012 - 4:11 pm by from Sao Paulo, Brazil (Permalink)
Hello there!

I'm going with my boyfriend to China to teach English in the next 30-45 days. We have been researching and Shenzhen seems like a great option.

Although we are non-native speakers, we have a bit of teaching experience from back home. We know that native speakers have all the priorities but we hope we can have 2 of the unfilled positions. :)

We know very little about China and this is exactly why we want to go. We have been traveling around the world for more than a year and we feel like China would be a great place to spend a year or even more and we are quite eager to know (inside!) information about Shenzhen as a city to live and as a city to teach.

Is there anybody in this group that knows a bit about the Tefl world in Shenzhen and could give us a few tips, personal opinions about:
- tefl jobs, conditions and possibilities
- why was Shenzhen the choice of place to live and teach?
- will be really hard for us as non-natives to get a job?

We thank you guys in advance for any helping hand out there =D

May I know if u hold any of the certificates of teaching English? About ur issue,I have talked with my friend who is a English teacher in one local training center,Indeed, as u say, the native English speakers have a big priority to get a job as a English teacher.but u will get a job with one the certificates. And maybe I can helpu to get some information about that!
Why dont u get a job as a Portuguese teacher? As I know ,more and more person want to learn this language, just as me I supposed to enroll in UFRGS for my Portuguese this August. and now there re few teachers for that!
Take care and hope to see u soon!
