Trip to Barcelona!!!
Posted August 23rd, 2012 - 12:17 am by from Ocoee, United States (Permalink)
Hello everyone!

I will be in Barcelona from August 30 through December 15 to study Spanish! I grew up in Florida, and my Dad sold boats, so I have been scuba diving and snorkeling all my life. I've been diving in some amazing places in the Caribbean, but never yet in the Mediterranean, so I am extremely excited! Between my studies, I will have 3 or 4 day weekends to play with...

A few questions:
1. Does anyone have any trips planned for during that time that I might be able beg my way into joining?

2. Are there any particular places around the Mediterranean during this time period (30/08-15/12)that I absolutely HAVE to see?

3. I think I want to buy new fins, and to cut down on weight I was thinking about buying them in Spain. Does anyone know about the difference in price/availability/quality between purchasing here in Florida or there in Barcelona?

If anyone can help with any or all of this, I would be forever in your debt! If anyone needs a dive buddy over the next few months, please do not hesitate to ask me!!!

I look forward to meeting at least some of you,

Ryan

Hello Ryan

(sorry, I was writing you a long replay but my computer switched off!)
so here you have the short version, I wish other people message you as well.

My experience in Spain. after diving in Thailand everybody told me diving in Spain will disappointed me...in somehow they were right.

There some nice places in Costa Dorada (near Barcelona) that are good, but I enjoyed more the company and the beaches there than the aquatic life (too cold after Thailand and underwater life is not so amazing).
Snorkeling: people say the best place around there is Islas Medas. I did like it.

I'm not in Barcelona now. I'm visiting new places in Costa Cálida. Here, I will go soon to Islas Hormigas (there is a natural reserve), people say is one of the places you can not miss.
I was was told a that snorkeling is also good around Bahía de Mazarrón (this implies few beaches) is also beautiful.
Some places near Alicante seems to be also cool (diving and snorkeling). However I will stay around Cartagena, Cabo de Palos and so on (Islas Hormigas is in Cabo de Palos)

There are more places, but I am afraid I'm not very experienced yet.

About your point 3, no idea. one of the web pages everybody check here is http://www.cascoantiguo.com/

write me a message if you decide to come around, here in the south :)
best
