Kitesurfing lessons
Posted August 24th, 2010 - 10:16 am by from Moscow, Russia (Permalink)
Will come soon to BCN for 2-week vacations and would like to have some initial lessons of kite-surfing (to obtain 1 or 2 of IKO). Heard that Roses is a good for beginners uncrowded spot in Catalonia, isn't it?
May be someone is teaching or have good instructor around.

hi serge,

welcome to this group!
yes, st. pere pescador in the gulf of roses is THE place where to go for kitesurfing...large sandy beaches, with areas dedicated to kitesurf, and good wind.
I just came back from there, it was crowded especially in the w-e, but hopefully in september you should find less people around.

I made the practical part of the course (e.g. body drag, waterstart) with alex of the ventilador school, and I am satisfied...on the contrary, I had a very bad experience with guys of the global kite school in barcelona, but that's not in roses so don't worry.

enjoy!
giulio

Hi Serge,

as far as I know, there are only two affiliated IKO centers in Catalunya, and both of them are in the area of Tarragona.

AEK = Asociacion Espanola de Kitesurf
IKO = International Kiteboarding Organization

so no, they are not the same thing, even though I guess they set out similar guidelines for kitesurf courses...but this is just my guess!
Personally, I have never been much interested in IKO and I think a kitesurf school can be good even if not IKO affiliated.
The best thing would probably be to contact ventilador or other schools and ask them directly...generally, schools provide you the material (kite, harness, bar, board) during the course, but once the course is finished...you either have to buy your own equipment or rent it (and that's quite expensive, usually!!).

Please note that in St. Pere Pescador you can meet people from the schools directly on the beach, everyday, so if you want you can make your decision after talking in person.

I didn't plan anything for september yet, but yes, I would definitely like to practice again in St.Pere Pescador...I'll be back to Spain the 30th of August, so let's keep in contact!

Anyone interested in joining us?

Giulio

Hi!

I live in Barcelona and I've been thinking to long about to start a kite course so I think this is the time to do it ;)I only had like 2 group classes but it was years ago (I also bought a kite but I still don't have the table...)

I've read your interesting informations about courses, and the coincidence is that next week I'll be near St. Pere so in the weekend I could have a course. I'd like to have some advice about a good cheap course there in St. Pere, and if you know also about a cheap way to sleep there (I guess 1 night...)

Thank youuuu
