Hey everybody. This isn't a couch request! My fiancee is working in Alva for two months and paying $490 a WEEK (Yeah, a WEEK) to stay in this hotel that is obviously engaging in price gouging.
Does anyone have any leads on reasonably priced accommodations (rent house, apartment, anything!)? We are going to post fliers this weekend near the NW OK campus when I visit, but I thought I would give a shout out to the OK CS community too. :-)
message me if you, or someone you know, has a house/apartment they are willing rent to him or split bills with, thank you. :-)
Honestly, that price UNFORTUNATELY doesn't surprise me with that area, with the explosion of oil work being done in the region. I live an hour away in Enid, but right now I am hosting 2 long term flatmates from Thailand and Hong Kong, so I am too cramped for space.
Would it be worth his time/expense to find more inexpensive long-term lodging around Enid, where there are more choices? Just wondering since Alva is so small...
Did you have any luck this weekend? I would suggest checking with the Chamber of Commerce, or placing an add in the local paper. A small ad looking for housing within a certain price range should be fairly inexpensive.
Everyone knows everyone in Alva, thus making some phone calls via service organizations, churches, etc. should be helpful.
I'm betting someone would welcome renting a room to make a few dollars. Its a friendly community, without extensive sources of income.
