collecting stories! walking about, talking, having tea, recording sounds, listening to music, making photographs, taking an adventure.
i'm to be wandering around the state next week, to explore and collect stories. my intentions feel sort of like an art project, and sort of like learn-by-doing journalism; essentially, though, i'm just planning to look, listen, have conversations, and document things with sensitivity. generally speaking, i'm interested to learn about how people live, how places live, and how those two sorts of living relate to one another. my favorite stories are probably the very smallest ones.
i'm hoping to meet people who are willing to do any of the following:
1. visit with me, show me around, tell me about anything at all, and/or let me tag along (anywhere, nowhere) for a little bit.
2. allow me to put up a tent in your backyard for a night!
3. take me along as you go from (any) one place to (any) another.
if any of those things sound ok to you or someone you know, please get in touch. if you can think of something that i should definitely check out, please recommend it! you are welcome to write here, or you can phone/text at any point this week or next- i'm at 412.304.4210.
i'm likely to take a sorta late train to chemult or klamath falls on sunday, so anyone willing to meet up there would be especially wonderful.
in case it helps, the interests that send me out of the house include writing, taking photographs, recording sounds, making music, hearing music, imagining music that doesn't yet exist,
dreaming about making little books, block prints, and podcasts,
public radio, cinema, the architecture of the forest,
art associated with abstract expressionism, gutai, and minimalism,
rainer maria rilke, federico garcia lorca, roberto bolano, antoine de saint-exupery,
a conviction that every place could bear endless exploration,
and a sort of response to the way places feel- something like love, but quiet, and very wide.
ok- i've probably written enough for now. thanks for hanging in there! see you maybe; otherwise, have a nice night. yours // joshua
