Postcard Project for a German primary school.
Posted August 10th, 2012 - 9:04 am by from Duisburg, Germany (Permalink)
Hello everybody,

I'm the Englishteacher of the 4th Grade at a German Primary school. The kids learn English since 3 years now and I am their new English teacher. To motivate the children and raise their interests in the language I would like to start a postcard project. I think it will be a great experience for the class, when they receive postcards from different countries. So they can see the importance of English as the world language. Therefore the postcards doesn't have to be only from English-speaking countries, although I would love to get some, so that we can discover in which countries English is the official language.

If you would like to support this project, you would make me and the kids really happy. There are 25 kids in this class, so I need at least 25 postcards, that every child has the "responsibility" for his or her own card. But the more postcards the better it would be :-) At the end of the project the kids will learn how to write a postcard on their own and you will receive a postcard from Germany, if you want so.

Since the kids have only 2 English lessons during the week, their English skills are not very high. So you have to keep your language on the postcard pretty simple.
I would like you to start the postcard with: "Dear class 4a..."
and then write something about your country and the city you are coming from. What is special there or what do you have to see when you are in that area.

That would be great.
If you want to support this project, just send me a message and I will send you my adress.

Thank you very much.

Great idea Marc -
I have done this before for German students here and classes in Germany . Send me the address and I will send you a post card.
BTW you give yourself away as a European with the 'since 3 years'. Native English speakers say - 'for 3 years'. No need for the 'now'. 'Skills are not very high'. Again we would say 'Skills are not very good'.

Now if only my German was as good.

Cheers -
Peter

Hi Marc, A great idea. I would love to send you all a postcard. I too would like to send the cards to specific children. I live in Gunning, NSW in sheep country. We are close to Canberra, Australia's capital city. Irene
