If you plan to stay in Hong Kong for awhile ...
(Please read carefully before responding. It isn't for a couch, a house swap or a short-term sublet. Minimum stay is six months, preferable one year.)
We are looking for someone to take one or two floors of our 2100 sq ft, fully detached village house in Sai Kung. It's a VERY good deal at HK$15,000 for two floors.
Each 700 sq ft floor is self-contained and accessible only by the tenant. We'll only share the place with one other party. It includes shared use of the roof, the giant patio and the absolutely huge garden.
It's not far from Sai Kung town, but it is in a very sparsely populated part of the district, above the Hebe Haven marina. If you need a lift and a 7-11 across the street, this place isn't for you. We do have wild pigs, large birds of prey, fruit trees, a clean river to swim in and LOTS of space.
It is perfect for people who are tired of the noise & pollution in Asian cities, but still need to to be close enough to the rat race to get work every morning. If you work in Hang Hau, east Kowloon, Sai Kung, Ma On Shan or Kowloon city, this place is ideal. If you work on the east side of Hong Kong island, it's do-able.
It is too far from Central, Wanchai or Aberdeen to be practical.
Spacious and bright, each floor has only two large bedrooms (except the ground floor, which has only one), and common area, a large full bathroom and a modest (but not tiny) kitchen. The ground floor has a separate entrance with wide double doors our onto the patio.
Wonderful views of the sea and the mountains from the roof. The garden is 30,000 sq feet, and there is a 1,500 sq ft patio as well. Great for a young family with a helper. The interior is newly painted. Deco is clean & basic. The kitchens each have a good quality gas hob (no oven). One has a microwave. There are two fridges (on two separate floors), a big chest freezer, and three air conditioners on each floor.
It's a very special place at a very low cost, but it is not for everyone. Although it is only 15 minutes from Hang Hau and Choi Hung, it is very isolated, quite deep in the mountains. There's zero traffic noise. It's more than 300 metres away from the main road. There's a smaller, unmarked road with no traffic on it that dead ends about 50 metres from the house. You can park a car there. You can ride a motorcycle up the path directly to the door. The 1.3-metre wide path next to the house has street lights.
The minibus stop on the main road is 10 mins walk up/down a fairly steep hill. From our house to Kowloon Tong by public transport is about 40-45 mins in traffic. From the minibus stop, Sai kung is three mins away.
There is govt rubbish service, postal delivery and gas delivery. You can get groceries delivered, too.
Sai Kung is a very liveable town with a great expat community.
