NET Teacher With Minimal Experience?
Posted April 7th, 2013 - 4:18 pm by from Sydney, Australia (Permalink)
Hi, just wondering how difficult is it to find a job as a NET teacher with little experience? I wish to move to Hong Kong from August - end of Jan, will be freshly graduated from uni, have a TESOL certificate and have taught uni students English for a year. Is it near impossible? I've been applying online for the last month and a half and no responses. It also asks for me for my expected salary, but I am unsure of how HK works and don't want to be asking for ridiculously high pay. Any tips/help would be great :)

It sounds like you've got a pretty good case for acceptance, honestly. :)

You can expect around 16-20000HKD, accommodation included for a mid- to high- end job. The same without accommodation for a lower-end job.

I don't know why you've not been responded to - that's a bit unusual, as far as I know.
This being said, most employers in Hong Kong do their hiring face-to-face. I'd recommend just turning up, couchsurfing, finding a job and seeing where you have accommodation provided (or if not provided, where you can afford)...

If you have any more questions, please post!
If you have any questions requiring specific details and such, please feel free to message me privately.

Best regards - and Good luck!
:)
Daniel.
