Ukrainian film classics series

Hey guys!

We are continuing here our Ukrainian film club. In January we will screen two Ukrainian poetic cinema gems: "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors/Tini zabutykh predkiv" and "The lost Deed/Propala Hramota".

January 11, Friday 8 pm "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors/Tini zabutykh predkiv", 1964 by Sergei Parajanov is Romeo and Juliette Ukrainian style, the best Ukrainian film ever made. A story of forbidden love in a small Hutsul village is captured with local traditions and beautiful Carpathian landscapes. Outstanding soundtrack is based on Ukrainian folk songs.

January 25, Friday 8 pm "The lost Deed/Propala Hramota", 1972 by Borys Ivchenko is an amusing music comedy based on Nikolay Gogol's novel. This film was censored and has never been distributed in Soviet Union.

Prominent Ukrainian actor Ivan Mykolaychuck is staring in both films.

This Friday, January 25 we are screening the beautiful comedy "The lost Deed". by Borys Ivchenko, 1972 - amusing music film based on same name Nikolay Gogol's novel. One of the few Soviet Ukrainian films depicting Cossacks with the main sex symbol of Ukrainian film - Ivan Mykolaychuk as Vasyl.

Due to some political jokes on Ukrainian-Russian relations the film was censored and had never been distributed in Soviet Union.
