Movie Wednesday 5/4/2011 5:00PM - "Win Win" @ Ritz Five
Posted May 3rd, 2011 - 7:36 pm by from Philadelphia, United States (Permalink)
Short movie description (spoiler alert): Thomas McCarthy (The Visitor, The Station Agent) once again explores the depths and nuances of human relationships in his new film about the allegiances and bonds between unlikely characters. Disheartened attorney Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti), who moonlights as a high school wrestling coach, stumbles across a star athlete (Alex Shaffer) through some questionable business dealings while trying to support his family. Just as it looks like he will get a double payday, the boy's mother (Melanie Lynskey) shows up fresh from rehab and flat broke, threatening to derail everything. McCarthy's deft touch with balancing drama and comedy, broken hearts and poignant humanity is at play in Win Win. Also starring Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone) and Bobby Cannavale (The Station Agent).

I haven't organized or attended any movie meetings lately so here is one. I've checked out a few different things that are playing now and picked Win Win, seems pretty interesting with good reviews. The movie starts at 5:15 so let's try to meet there at 5. After the movie I will also host a meeting at Tattooed Moms and then a possible midnight pretzel run. Hope to see everyone there.

Whoa, three events in one day. That is a lot of quality Oleg time :) I'm swamped with mid-term papers to grade and my own research stuff, but hopefully I can at least make it out to the movie (if I am productive earlier in the day).

Since it has been a while, I hope to see a bunch of phellow Philly Philm Watchers out.
