Looking for travel tip and someone to travel with in January
I am planning a trip to NZ in mid-January. What is the best way to see places around? Apart from renting a car (I am not a very confident driver)? Potentially I would like to visit both islands.
I am still not sure if I should find a group tour or do the trip myself as tours can be quite costly. However I will be traveling on my own. I have around 8-9 days in the country and I want to get most out of it. Maybe you can advise not a very expensive tour company?
Another option will be to find someone else to travel with. So if there is anyone traveling around NZ in mid-January, let me know, maybe we can do the trip together.
I'm having 2 weeks vacation in Mid-January and was thinking of heading to New Zealand :). I'm currently going through the visa process, and like you, I dont know much about where and how to travel, but I definitely think that having a travel buddy would help a lot.
Let me know when you plan to go and may be we can meet up over there :).
I agree with Heikki. I think your time is too short to travel both island, so you better choose only 1.
I went to NZ last Oct 2011. It was only for 1 week (7 days) and I chose South Island, as my flight goes to Christchurch and I heard the natural view in the South is more beautiful.
This was my rute : Christchurch - Greymouth (also visit Punakaiki) - west coast (pass Frans Josef) - Wanaka - Queenstown - Mt. Cook - back to Christchurch
From Queenstown you can also visit Milford Sound. I think is a must.
I travel around by bus. There are 2 main bus company in NZ : Naked Bus and Intercity.
I have collect the information in my Facebook page. just scroll down in the homepage/wall.
If you have time to check it all, perhaps you'll find good price as sometimes NakedBus & BookMe offer very low price for bus ticket or tour (until only $1).
Hope it helps, and have fun in NZ ;)
The bridge over the Wanganui River on the West Coast has been washed out so no travel on Hwy 6 down the West Coast from Hokitika to Franz Josef. Have to travel via Wanaka to Franz Josef will be at least an extra day of travel if you want to go to Franz Josef. No word on how soon it may be rebuilt
