Are there more people going to Luminate Festival? How are you getting there? I want to go from Wellington but still looking for a ride to there or maybe people keen to hitchhike together?

Cool, I'm coming from Wellington and I'm there already. Which day are you planning to go? I was thinking about taking the Ferry the 29 of January early in the morning to Picton. Guess need to book the tickets for the ferry ahead.

it can be good idea. I am going to try to be in Wellington before the 29th. Do you know how much is the ferry?

There are two companies who have ferries from Wellington to Picton: http://www.interislander.co.nz/ and http://www.bluebridge.co.nz/

I see now that the very early one is already sold out but could get a ticket for the 8.25am one. Cost $55 NZD one way. Will arrive 11.35 in Picton. http://www.interislander.co.nz/Booking/Select-Sailings.aspx

Or maybe better the bluebridge at 8am, arrive at 11.30 in Picton, $51 NZD. https://bookings.bluebridge.co.nz/res_booking_availability_and_price.aspx?amd=1

I think the Bluebridge at 8am on the 29th of January might be the best option. What do you think?

it doesn't sound bad at all the bluebridge. I think even if we look for a flight it won't be any cheaper. let me know when you're buying your ticket so I buy mine we can be in same boat :)

Hey again, Principessa :)

Are you going to be at Kiwiburn? There's a bunch of us going to Luminate following the burn-inating so it should be cake to make new chums and find a ride. I've heard it's easy to dodge the ferry if you hide in someone's van. Otherwise, , hitchhiking is really easy in NZ. Too easy. There's been times my travel companion Bianca and I haven't even finished sticking up our thumbs before we have a ride. I've talked with several solo backpackers (including females) who travel exclusively by thumbing and they all echo the same sentiment, none of us have had any dramas. So yeah, I highly endorse hitching. Good luck!

Kiwi burn looks awesome but I think with Luminate I won't have too much time to be in an other Festival.

It's good to hear about hitchhiking, I hope I can trust for all the trip. I was thinking may be getting that pass will give me already the ferry pass with few hours of bus in case I don't find hitchhiking:)

Are you going to Luminate?

Will buy my ferry ticket tonight or tmrrw morning. Just try to figure out what would be better the 2.30am one or the 8am. Guess the 8am still gives time enough to get there..

I am going to LUMINATE festival, and I am driving from ChristChurch area, to Golden Bay.

If anyone else might be taking that same route, I would be down to share costs in gas, and to have a fun travel mate to go with. :)

Let me know!
