Camping on the South Island
Posted January 11th, 2013 - 9:03 pm by from Nashville, United States (Permalink)
Hello all,

So, I have 3 and a half weeks to see some great hiking trails on the south island, but I've done a number on my knee and I have no idea how many kilometers I can do a day. Can anyone recommend tracks where it is not necessary to stay in huts, to just tent camp? I'm hoping to make 100 klicks or more, but one never knows. Also, I am without a car for this period, so access by public transport or hitching is a necessity. Any help, please?

Bill

Just 1. I will be coming down to the South Island on the 19th or 20th after Kate leaves Auckland to go back to Siberia. I have to be back in Auckland on the 11th of February. If you want to hitchhike and walk the tracks with me let me know.
