Mobile sim card with data in NZ
Posted January 24th, 2013 - 2:03 pm by from San Diego, United States (Permalink)
Hi all

I'm coming to Wellington for 10 days for a work trip but I will also have some days to travel around.
Any suggestion of a cheap sim prepaid deal with internet data for a week or 10 days?

Cheers

Cristiano

Hi Cristiano,

If your phone supports HSDPA at 850MHz, Skinny is probably the best deal for 10 days. $4 for the sim card (with one week's plan pre-activated and $4 for their weekly plans after that). Telecom's the alternative.

https://skinny.co.nz/2634_EN-Browse_Handsets-Product_page.htm?katid=15&supid=40-2 for the SIM card and http://skinny.co.nz/2827_EN-Skinny_Offers-Summer_Offer.htm for the weekly plans.

If your phone supports HSDPA at 900MHz, 2degrees is probably the best deal. $10 for the SIM card, although you may be able to get one for free from a visitor information centre. $19 monthly plans over here: http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/prepay/pricing/value-packs/19combos .

Cheers Dude!

I have an Iphone 4 so I guess both are an option. I think I'll go for the 2degrees.

Thanks

Hi Michael,

which one has better coverage in the South Island? We are planning to buy a sim to use 3G.

Thank you!

For 3G use in remote areas, Telecom or Skinny are probably the best options. Vodafone and 2degrees coverage is pretty similar to Telecom, but drops back to 2G in some places.
