Looking for travel buddy (s)/tips/contacts for backpacking PNG late June/early July
I'm in Cairns and planning to head to PNG in the next few days, either flying or sailing from here. I would love to have a travel buddy or three to experience the country with. I'm planning to land in Port Moresby, then fly to Lae and start heading up in to the highlands and hopefully catch a cultural festival. I also plan on heading to the Sepik river region, hire a canoe and a guide to move up the river. If anybody has some recs on what not to miss, or a contacts, that would be very helpful and appreciated. I have ready the Lonely Planet almost cover to cover but nothing beats on ground experience.
I am working on some contacts there through friends at home so hopefully will be able to get in with some locals. I'm thinking to spend about 2.5 - 3 weeks total, definitely get in some diving, then cross the land boarder over to Indonesia. Even if you can't travel, I would appreciate any tip/contacts/insight on PNG.
Thanks and Cheers!
