Boat from Port Villa to Tanna
Posted January 24th, 2012 - 5:31 am by from Brisbane, Australia (Permalink)

I'm thinking about coming to Vanuatu in February. One of the reasons is to visit the annual John Frum celebration on Tanna island. I'd like to go to Tanna by boat. Ivan wrote a great round up on Vanuatu boat trips in another tread a year ago, so things could have changed. Does anybody know if there are still boats running between Port Vila and Tanna?

Yes there are boats that run between Vila and Tanna but they don't have any schedules and may or may not be running etc. So can't really give you any info about them.

When you arrive, go down to the wharf and ask around (or just ask a few locals at market or elsewhere in town) and you'll be able to find out if anything's going. Don't count on it though, the ships go when they go and you could easily be waiting for a week or even longer.
