Future Possible Meetups in QUeens
Posted June 24th, 2012 - 12:41 pm by from London, England (Permalink)
I'm a bit sad to see that this group seems to be slowing down in activity. I created a new group:
West Queens NYC -Sunnyside, LIC, Astoria
http://www.couchsurfing.org/group.html?gid=53771
in the hopes to get together with members of the community, people from other parts of Queens and NYC in general as well as tourists and out-of-towners.

We need to emphasize our strong points. Some ideas that I'm thinking about are doing ethnic food (an obvious strong point for this borough), meetups at local pubs for drinks or brunch (Sunnyside has lots of Irish pubs as does Woodside, Astoria and LIC have cool gastropubs and Astoria has 2 beer gardens) or coffee/tea for those who don't drink, as well as cultural events such as Queens Museum, PS1, etc.

As I posted in the group, I'd also like to incorporate some community-related things such as tours of the farmer's market and visits to the Western Queens Composting Initiative and the Brooklyn Grange (a rooftop farm located, yes, in Queens) to show Queens' greener side.

If anybody has interest in any of these things let me know. I'm create an event the the West Queens page and mirror that here.
Look forward to meeting you.
=)

Thank you for the advice.
Though, I'm not really too concerned if this is "well received."
I'm not trying to overthrow a government here. I'm just trying to make a casual, informal forum for people in a specific area that has the population of a small city to get together for drinks, relaxed conversation, and maybe some arts and culture. I would be ecstatic if people from East Queens, the Bronx or Los Angeles would join.
:)

Superhoster - where is your locale?
I am in Sunnyside

BTW, travelers/international students and interns
Tomorrow is a big holiday here in the U.S. - 4th of July (Independence Day)
Best places in Queens for viewing the fireworks are in Astoria by Astoria park near the bridge and, of course, Long Island City in the Vernon-Jackson area
There are a few other cool spots here and there, and I would be surprised of the Water Taxi "Beach" were doing some kind of event
:)

I know it's not Queens, but South Street Seaport is also pretty exciting for the 4th

Hit me up if anyone's interested!

This new group of yours makes me feel like you just want to shut out the rest of Queens.

If you really want to revive activities in Queens, just post them here, dude. No need to exclude people.

Peace!
