looking for hurricane buddies (to know someone in my block just in case)

hi CouchSurfers of Queens!

the following is a message I just posted in the Astorians group:

hello Astorians!

from Aug. 22nd through Sept. 5th, I am "CouchSurfing" alone at
someone's apartment in Astoria (Broadway & 34th st). I met that
person in Iceland a couple of weeks ago and we got along very well. she
said I could take care of her place since she would still be in Iceland.
I know I'm very lucky.

now there's Irene... I am not in
a flood zone, well prepared with enough food etc, it's just that I'm
worried about having the nearest good friends in Manhattan (can't go
there) and maybe knowing some people in Brooklyn but it doesn't really
count since I don't know where they live and it's not right next door.
and you know how friends are valuable.

is there anyone reading this who will be close to Broadway & 34th st this weekend? could we just shake hands/meet/chat/exchange addresses tomorrow?

I will give you my detailed address by personnal message. my phone number is 617-710-4778.

good night

Leonard

I'm also posting here for several reasons:

-the Astorians group is small and I know at least one person (to whom I sent a PM of course) who lives in Astoria, is a member of this group but not of the Astorians group. maybe she's not the only one.

-if I find someone outside of Astoria but still not too far, it would be "better than nothing" ("no one").

-I'm also interested in hosting for the weekend (good way of finding a hurricane buddy), and I guess travelers are more likely to join the Queens group than the Astorians, if all they know is they are coming to NYC.

take care, CouchSurfers of Queens.

Hey Leonard,

I'm in Jackson Heights, Queens, which is only a few miles away from Astoria. I'd be glad to hang with you sometime this week or over the weekend. Just reply to this and we'll see about setting something up?
