I did Macchu Pichu way back to Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia. Cuzco is a pearl in the mid of the forrest and your next destination is Puno close to Titicaca lake and 12 years ago and I suppose that today you also have to sleep in Puno (Cuz-Puno 8 hours) to continue your trip. After a night in Puno you take a bus to La Paz and in the midway cross the Titicaca by boat (that´s included in your ticket).
From La Paz to SC de la Sierra it´s another 8 hours. These countries have a lot to see, Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, Nazca in Peru and many other places and rich history of Incas and colonnial spanish background.

Hi Dann,
I did this trip this year, I suggest to take one month for Peru, so you really can relax. I went by bus from Lima to Pisco, to visit Paracas islan and desert, then I went for 1 day to Ica to do sandboarding, then Nasza for day or two.
I skipped Colca canyon and regret it, so about 5 days for Arequipa is great too. I took a bus from Nasza to Cusco, it was very long ride and I felt very sick (because of altitude).
You need few days to get to used with altitude in Cusco, then is up to you if you want to hike to MP or go by train. I was there in the end of April and all "hikes" were sold out, so make reservation ahead. Around Cusco there is lot to see and do, I suggest to reserve 2 weeks if you like hiking. I went from Cusco to Puno by bus. Close to Puno was Sillustani, amazing place to see, it takes half day to visit. We went from Puno to Taquile island in Titicaca and stayed a night in local home. There are touroperators who organise those trips, just be sure that local home gets also part of the money you pay to the company. From Puno by bus to La Paz was around 6 hours. I was in hurry so in Bolivia went to Salar de Uyuni, which was great trip. But be prepared, it is really cold at that time, it`s below 0 most o time. Travelling by bus can be very time consuming in Bolivia, usually, if according schedule it supposed to take 3 hours, it took 6. I took a flight from Santa Cruz to Rio as I was in hurry. But if you have`nt been in Pantanal (brazil), then I suggest to go there as well. You can see a lot o wildlife there and for example in Bonito (in Brazil) there are amazing rivers for snorkeling.
I wish you good luck with the trip, it is amazing experience!
