Hi All!

I am new to Orange County and recently moved to Santa Ana. Wondering if anyone use bus/train or whatever to go to LA or San Diego? Everytime i use google map and get the search result of 3 hours to LA and 8 hours to San Diego?!!!

Can anyone please help let me know what link or resource i can get the information to go around? I have no car so i have to reply on public transportation to go out.

Thanks a lot and appreciate if you help!

Chris

The OCTA web site has schedules and costs of taking public transportation. Taking the train from Santa Ana to Union Station only takes about an hour, if that, and then you can catch other trains or busses to go further into LA. You can also catch train service to San Diego from Santa Ana. That takes about an hour or so. Good travels!

Yeah, I've taken public transportation a few times but it generally takes 3x longer than by car so I have stopped unfortunately. Your Google Map results are not incorrect in my opinion. Public transportation can be pretty good if you're by a hub. If you're not it can be quite bad. Depends on which part of Santa Ana you're in. If you're by the train station great! If not, it is likely to take you 30-60 min to the train station in Santa Ana, an hour to LA's Union Station via train, then another 30-60 min to the part of LA you want to go to.

There are a few alternatives to using the train that are cheaper. Unless this has changed, there are 2 direct buses from OC to LA. It is ridiculously a small amount. But, I guess counties don't like sharing funds. They leave from HB and Anaheim. The HB one is a commuter bus so it only leave a rare few amount of times per day. The Anaheim bus is by Disneyland and occurs quite often, but has a butt load of stops (like 50 or so). So, public transport is not that awesome unfortunately. The only other options I can see you using are a rideshare/carpool, or I hear there are Chinese/Vietnamese buses that are cheap that go from somewhere in OC to SF (with a stop or two in between, including LA). Or, buy/rent a car. Sorry I can't help more. Good luck!
