I'm still not sure what this weekend is supposed to be. What I thought was a casual get-together seems like more of a concert camp-out, not the type of event I ever thought of myself as participating in but the organizers seem so welcoming. Imagine - food circles.

Well, I can help prepare food, or bring food. I like the idea of sharing some meals, that's always fun. Please let me know how this is supposed to work.

By the way, my tent needs to be situated between two trees because it's got a center pole that needs to be moored to trees. Are trees going to be available? I'm also wondering what the toilet and bathing situation is going to be . . . will appreciate info about this as well.

We only need to tie a slender rope around two trees as an extra support for our tent's top (it's an old, canvas tent). I don't think we will be in danger of hurting trees, but thanks for the thought.

Joining/Creating a food group:
I would like help in gathering funds to create at least one meal for all those attending the NY Kouch Crash.

I would like to join a group that is already in place but if that doesn't work out, I'm all for participating and helping organize a food group! It would be great if I could find a few serious dedicated people to be leaders and also get the ball rolling.

Food Ideas:
-I will definitely be providing at least one vegetarian/(possibly vegan) option. I'm thinking bean/rice burritos. Other food items are needed for this simple food.
If you have a special diet or want to help, your input is welcome!

-As a recent omnivore though, I also want to create a hearty dish. Ideas are also welcome here.

-I'm also planning a dessert. I have a delicious default dish but I want to know you're simple, yummy recipes!

*******PLEASE READ*********
If you would like to assist with funds, buying/bringing items (cooking utensils, pots/pans, tables, canopy) or be one of few cooking helpers then please post. Those who assist in creating the meal and take their role(s) seriously deserve a full belly.

I will bring lots of extra food to share :-)

I think the idea of "We are even open to providing certain meals for a fixed cost (in advance)" is great and I would be happy to help with that!

Ok folks,

So I have been working on a plan for this and I think the best way to do it is ad hoc on the fly. Certainly if people wanna bring their own food and share or not that is fine. If people wanna form food groups in advance that is great too. If u can organize it that well god bless u! :)

But I think perhaps the easiest way to go would be to form a group AT the site. People who dont have a vehicle can join up w/someone who does and u can all take about a 10 min ride to the supermarket and get what u need and share the expenses and the work to prepare it. Maybe have a big meetup at the supermarket on Friday nite or Saturday morning. U can just collect money from people on the fly. This could work out really well. The supermarket isnt super cheap, but its still reasonable. And u really have unlimited possibilities. It would be great to bring whatever cooking gear and equipment like stoves and pots, pans, gas etc to help with the cause. The more stuff we have the easier it will be.

How does this sound?

Makes perfect sense to me as it will be the easiest to do and then we can have more time for fun!!

Don't forget all the farmer's markets that are out there as well!

Sounds like a plan to me Dave!! I'd love to help organize some of these trips once I get there. I'll come up with a preliminary list of necessary items (and some extras) to have ready to go when I get there. Let me know if there;s anything else I can do.

I don't mind sharing my extra food, but I won't have my own grill/charcoal. Will anyone be sharing use of their grill?

Quick question, can I make a fire at my camp with the firewood you provide and cook my own food? (marshmellow)

I plan to do my own cooking.

This is very helpful. I, for one, am someone who is catching a ride in a small-ish car full of campers. Coming from Boston, we will ride the high-seas ferry boat from Connecticut to Orient Point Long Island. There wont be much room for food!.. barely enough room for us campers! So anyway I can participate.. it is easier for me to bring extra cash than extra food.
And I love doing food prep (aka cooking).
Thanks for organizing a nice event!

Hey folks,

Good to see the interest! Keep in mind the supermarket in Greenport is about 10 mins away. So when people get there they shouldbe able to form food groups and arrange a shopping trip. Also remember, this is FARM COUNTRY so lotsa fresh fruits and veggies for sale on the road close by. And hey maybe someone wants to catch a nice fish to grill.

Fire will ONLY BE ALLOWED IN DESIGNATED AREA. Remmebr this is an active tree and corn farm. We dont wanna start forrest fires! So far we have 2 decent sized gas grills. One grill has a 1 burner stove and I have a 2 burner stove that can be used. But if anyone have cooking equipment like a stove grill and also pots and pans...PLEASE BRING it.

We r not out in the middle of nowhere either. There is a small crappy deli within 1 mile as well. So there r all kinds of food options. Hopefully everyone will cooperate and share equipment, work, expenses etc. I LOVE FOOD> It would be graet if we could have all kinds of food fests!

In the meantime if u wanna plan ahead and form groups in advance and bring food from home...that is great! It will be somewhat cheaper if u shop at Costco for many people in advance. But its only a weekend so buying at the local supermarket shouldnt break the bank. And it will be a lot easier for people who never met before to coordinate once u all meet face to face and can design a menu and go shopping!

IM GETTING SO PSYCHED!!!!!

Cheers
Dave

Do we have an idea of how many grills will be up and running?

I love grilled vegetables and can bring a grill pan (with little holes in it), but I can't find my knives and peelers. They're all stored up in the attic. Can anyone bring stuff like that?
