Please help with me with my research and take my survey on the use of social media in the Tohoku disaster
Posted September 17th, 2011 - 9:51 am by from Kyoto, Japan (Permalink)

My name is Brett Peary and I am a graduate student at Kyoto University in Japan. I am performing a survey on the use of social media during the 2011 Tohoku disaster and would like your feed back. I am a experienced couchsurfer (burepe) and I would like to get the members of the Japan Crisis Housing group to reply to my survey on their experience with social media during the disaster. Their feedback would help us improve disaster preparation and response using social media.

The aim of the survey is to better understand how social media was used in the disaster so that it can be used more effectively in the future, and to create policy recommendations for organizations and local and national governments.

The survey is open to all, regardless of location. Individuals who used social media and/or participated with groups that performed a task using social media after the disaster are of particular interest.

Due to your group’s activity after the disaster, your group’s member’s opinions are of particular interest to me and so, if you do not mind, would you pass this survey on to members of your group?

The survey is in Japanese and English. A further explanation of the survey and a link to the survey are here: here: http://goo.gl/wYT0L (English), http://goo.gl/wz1UQ (日本語)

Below is a tweet that you can put out via Twitter, if you would be so kind.

Help improve disaster response with social media. Take the survey on SM in Japan disaster. Kyoto Uni. Pls RT goo.gl/2R4xb

If you have any questions or comments you can contact me at brett.peary+smtohoku@gmail.com or through the Twitter ( http://twitter.com/SMdisaster ) or Facebook account for this survey ( http://goo.gl/FaikZ ). In addition, I can speak, read and write Japanese, so feel free to write me in Japanese if desired.

I truly admire your organizations efforts. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
