To the HK Language Exchanges members
Posted July 30th, 2011 - 11:01 am by from Hong Kong Island, China (Permalink)
Dear everyone,

First, thank you all for joining the HK language exchanges group. Up to now, we have 25 members, (Gongrats!), yet only 3 messages posted, without any response. This is SAD and unacceptable!

Therefore I propose, we shall have a group meeting in early August to break the ice. Here's my idea: everyone leaves a message if interested, noting his/her name, the specific languages for exchanges and preferred time & day. For example:

NAME, NATIONALITY, LANGUAGE LEARNING, TIME
1. Fay, Chinese(Mandarin), French, 6pm-9pm weekday or Sunday

I sincerely hope that all of us as language addicts can find help and support from each other in this group. And why not have it start RIGHT NOW?!

Cheers,
Fay

Looking forward to hear from you, guys!

Thank you Fay for your kindness attention for this group, as you said, it's really sad and pity not to have an active language exchange group in HK. The language exchange group in Austria is much too great, i had a great time there and really learn much!!

Hi everyone,

My name is Vinci and I was also born in Hong Kong, but grew up in Canada from an early age.

I can speak English and Cantonese and would be glad to converse in either. I am also looking to practice my Japanese, which is at an intermediate level.

Anytime is fine with me. Thanks!

Hi all

I am from the Uk and taught Eng for four years, my mandarin is at an intermediate level - though it's very rusty after a year in Hong Kong and I am learning basic cantonese

I would love to help someone with their english (or a beginner at mandarin - I get very excited about chinese) if they could help me with my canto/mandarin

Clare/UK/[English-Cantonese/Mandarin]/Week-end, B4 work in quarry bay

All right, good news! Ladies and Gentlemen!

Finally we have 6 people signed, mostly focused on Chinese, English and French. Pretty good for the kickoff, isn't it!

So let's say Sat, 24 Sept, 6:00pm, the bar at Pier 3 (DB). Beers are cheap there, awesome sea view and most of all, spacious and quiet. So we don't have to yell at each other, and can try some one-on-one session, if needed.

Anyways, if you are still interested, PM me your phone number and I'll keep you posted.

Any suggestions regarding the venue, the time or the theme, method, whatever, are more than welcomed.

Hopefully, see you all there.

Cheers,
Fay

Hi Fay,

Thank you so much for organising the event to gather our members, but I have something to do that night so I couldn't attend.

Hope all of you enjoy Sat night and see all in the next event.

Dear Eric,

Sorry I didn't get you updated, as I didn't notice your post in the group till now. Most of them sent me private messages that go to my email account directly. Much easier for me to check on daily basis.

Anyways, I sincerely apologize for that. In fact, I was worried that it might rain on Sat. And most of people won't be there till the end of the rugby game. So we just stayed in LKF, watching France beaten by New Zealand while practicing all the cursing words. (joke)

Well, hopefully you are not too disappointed with us and see you next time!

Best regards,
Fay

Aloha Fay,

No harm, no foul I guess...after hanging around the Discover Bay pier for a while, the other CSer and I got hungry so we left for Yoshinoya anyways...then we had a lot of trouble finding a place willing to televise German Bundesliga Football...we failed to find a venue as well.

In any case, my interest and faith in this group remains strong. Please kindly advise and post in this space if any future meetups are coming up in the near future.

I have a day off on Thursday and hope to join the CS drinks at LKF. Hope to see you and some of the members of this sub-group there if you find time.

Have a nice day,

Eric
