"ULF'S GENERAL DISCLAIMER" for everything he does publicly in CS Groups or anywhere else on CS:

There are many bad things in this world.
And there are many ways to deal with them!
Like Desperation, Ignorance, Determination to Change them.

And then there's HUMOR!

NO - that is not something in your body doctors have to cut out or else you'll die of it!

It's actually something with great healing powers!

It even has helped millions of people thru much darker times!!!
(Should you ever meet me in person ask me about that dinner I was invited to by a good friend of mine where I, a German Aryan, was grilled by but in fact also had the great pleasure to meet and learn a lot from her grandparents - both survivors of the Holocaust!)

In German we say "Humor is when you laugh NEVERTHELESS".
In other words: NOT because, BUT in spite of something!

There are other definitions, though.

I'd recommend to all of you who are not acquainted with those phenomena of my culture to look it up on Wikipedia!
And while you're at it try to also learn a bit about my favorite variations of humor: "irony" and "sarcasm" - the latter one especially in connection with "cynicism"!

ALSO:

I'm German.
We're kind of exact...
So I try to word and phrase what I post publicly (in group posts, on my profile, on meeting pages or wherever!) as exact as possible!

I EXPECT YOU TO READ IT EXACTLY, TOO, BEFORE you gonna rat on me to CouchSurfing's own Member Disputes & Safety Team!!!

1)
If you do or say something stupid and I call that stupid then that does NOT mean that YOU ARE stupid!
It means that what you did or said is stupid!
(And that is by the way - to quote one of the guidelines of this group: addressing "the topic [...] and not the individual"!)
Intelligent people do stupid things!
I had unprotected sex once...

2)
If I write that I think or guess or believe or assume or figure or conceive from ... or ... that something is so and so then what I wanna say by that is that I think or guess or believe or assume or figure or conceive from ... or ... that something is so and so.
And then that is a indeed fact!
It is a fact that I think or guess or believe or assume or figure or conceive from ... or ... that something is so and so.
It MIGHT not be a fact that this something is indeed so and so - but then this is not what I'll have written!

3)
I expect you to show more common sense than a 3 year old - try at least to answer these expectations!
Use your brains - it doesn't hurt!
Don't insist on me explaining everything to you like you're a 2-year-old!
If I say "This dish tastes good" then it should be clear to anyone who's not a complete moron that what I really meant to say is that I, Ulf, IN MY HUMBLE AND PERSONAL OPINION have come to the assessment that this dish tastes good TO ME.
So even though on first sight it might look like I'm making a factual statement about that dish's taste I do in fact - OF COURSE! - only speak about my own opinion about it. As it is obvious to anyone who's capable of summoning up a minimum of common sense!

4)
I repeat: YES! I actually dare to claim from you to use common sense!!!
I realize that's somewhat anachronistic since it seems to be a general rule that - in order to be respectful and not offending and so on, naturally! - one must never expect from others that they actually do apply common sense BUT you always have to express yourself in a way that allows everyone to forgo common sense altogether!
Unfortunately I'm not really good at that rule. Sorry - it's my cultural (German!) background:
http://www.spiegel.de/international/0,1518,416920,00.html
SO: IF YOU ARE UNCERTAIN ABOUT WHETHER I MIGHT HAVE BEEN SERIOUS OR NOT then you might wanna consider finding out about that first!
READ THIS POST FROM THE TOP AGAIN!
You could have a look at my profile to get a better impression of what kind of a guy I am. Hell - you could even contact me. PREFERRABLY BEFORE BASHING ME IN PUBLIC!!!

Thank you very much and merry Christmas to you all!
(Also Happy Hanukah and what not!)

Sorry all for using this cute little group for putting my own "General Disclaimer" here. I didn't know any other place on CS where I could save it with a direct link to it I can use from now on.

It's kind of appropriate, too, though. After all it's been due to a post of mine in this group that I got reported to the MDST.
Funnily enough NOT for my "Abulf Gayb" picture that had caused so much heat (about that the MDST simply informed me that I had to take it off after they "stumbled across it" all by themselves!!!) BUT by my little NPD reference in this post: http://www.couchsurfing.com/group_read.html?gid=429&post=1336256#post1471692 ...

I would like to add that what I think of the person who reported me is that he or she is obviously (to me) not only a coward for ratting on me behind my back without telling me so in public or in a personal mail, but that I believe he or she must be rather stupid and or ignorant, too, for not understanding or not caring to understand what I had actually said there AND had apparently chosen to ignore the then following post of mine altogether - quite apart from the fact that for some strange reason he or she seems to consider a "personal disorder" something immoral or obnoxious or objectionable, so that one can "ACCUSE" somebody else of it. Hm...

But I must not say any of that since people could find that offensive!
And "offensive" has apparently become the "communist" of our time.
I know that the comparison to McCarthyism is not very popular among some of us - I guess that's because it's offensive...
But just like it was enough back then to simply insinuate that someone might have said or done something which could be labeled "communist" was enough to effectively get this someone into trouble it seems to me that nowadays it's very similar with the insinuation or accusation that somebody did something "offensive". Nobody seems to question then if the accuse person actually did or said that - let alone if that should actually be labeled "offensive"!
I'm following the US election right now - and to my big amusement there is not a day on which not at least one side accuses the other one of having done or said something (sit down or get prepared in any other way for a really shocking surprise now): "OFFENSIVE"!!!

And since I'm not 100% convinced anymore that the MDST always checks such reports on whether or not they're actually based on facts or just some (foolish?) misunderstanding or misinterpretation - even for people who are, and I quote Val again;-D: "connected to the 'innercirle'" (or perhaps especially not in cases when they now the "culprit") - I'd better not take any risks any more and better not speak my mind!

So I'd like to make sure that I had no intention whatsoever to declare whoever reported me to the MDST to be a stupid or ignorant or coward person and also rather shut up about what I think personally about that whole case since that could get me into trouble again.

I've posted about that before - but with the other 2 threads I posted recently I feel the need to better post it again:

Any pathetic and mendacious attempt to accuse me of trying to suppress criticism I will reveal as exactly this! As cheap propaganda and a stupid act of what is either an evil or a retarded mind. The only way this moron or asshole is actually able to contradict me 'cause he has at least enough brainpower left to realize that he could not contradict my statements in this post based on what I actually write, i.e. based on "facts" - which is why he resorts to word twisting and primitive lying to have a case against me!

And as a precaution I hereby state that I'm the last to speak out against criticism as such! And that explicitly includes criticism of our leadership, of course! Or even myself;-)
In fact one of the reasons I disliked OCS from the start is the cheap propagandistic intention behind it by giving the (phony!) impression that it needs such a "watch group" 'cause such criticism is not possibly within the CS site...

What I do contradict and attack aggressively are certain "ways" of criticism and - even more - when stuff is posted under the pretense that it's "criticism" when in reality it's nothing but pathetic bickering or even defamation.

I've given examples enough (the threads I started in BS on June 25 in 2007 alone would give you enough to read for another hour or so;-D):
"LongUlfPost (LUP) - 3Ps: Propaganda" - http://www.couchsurfing.com/group_read.html?gid=429&post=250104
"LongUlfPost (LUP) - 3Ps: Prophecies" - http://www.couchsurfing.com/group_read.html?gid=429&post=250105
"LongUlfPost (LUP) - 3Ps: Patience" - http://www.couchsurfing.com/group_read.html?gid=429&post=250107
And many more...

But the point is this:

I will continue speaking out against and attacking criticism of myself or the leadership or of whoever else wherever I see "criticism" which I wouldn't really even consider as such or where tools and tricks are used that I consider propaganda, word twisting, dishonest or in any other way unfair or lying or in any other way inacceptable NOT because it is criticism (if it actually is at all) but because of HOW it's done!

What? Did I miss an episode?

Thanks for letting us know about how to deal with your posts Ulf.

One point that I cannot share with you is your point n°01

"If you do or say something stupid and I call that stupid then that does NOT mean that YOU ARE stupid!
It means that what you did or said is stupid!
(And that is by the way - to quote one of the guidelines of this group: addressing "the topic [...] and not the individual"!)
Intelligent people do stupid things!
I had unprotected sex once..."

Telling that an idea is stupid is a judgement. Telling that you do not share a point of view is just your opinion, and you have all right to express them.

Hope it can change and help us to communicate better?
