Posted November 13th, 2012 - 8:51 am by from Cape Town, South Africa (Permalink)
Hi there guys!

Im traveling through Southern Asia between January - March.. Im looking for some insights of some of the best Snorkeling and Scuba spots along the coasts of these countries where I will spend most of my time.

I will be traveling on a tight budget, so is looking for places that will work with my traveling budget :)

Would appreciate some feedback :)

And if someone is in the area over that time, let me know! Maybe we can organize to meet up and hit the ocean together!

Cheers from beautiful Cape Town!

Hello,

I agree with them, pay the price to dive safely.

South East Asia is not that expensive comparing to other places.

I've been to Sipadan and Perhentians in Malaysia.

Similan Islands (in Thailand) are very good too, and most of the dive operators are reliable.I've worked there as a DM

In my opinion, Sipadan is the best, followed by Similan, then Perhentians.

If you need more info contact me.
Cheers!

De Bruyn,

I'll be in the area around the same time and will also be traveling on a tight budget.

I'll be in the Philippines and doing some diving there in January. I'll be going around Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand in February and March. Would love to compare travel notes or have a beer and swap travel stories.

Cheers,
Manok

Hey,
I'll be travelling South East Asia throughout all of March to the very end of May. I'm looking to do my PADI in March, possibly either Ko Lanta or Ko Tao. Anyone got experience of diving in Thailand/these specific areas? Or could you recommend decent dive operators that you've used in Thailand?
Cheers!
Tom

You might find this travelfish article useful when looking to select a dive centre -

HI,

You can scuba in Perhentian island, in malaysia for smth like 60 Rm (15€) if you get a certification. Biggest problem in islands its the accomodation expensive and lousy. If u have a tent use it. I stayed 18 days in perhentian with my tent in the back of a diving center for free! So more money for diving!
It is more expensive in Thailand, like 25€, depends where you are.
