Dear Yves,

when registering on BW they ask a valid a-mail, your name and surname, your birthdate, and your location (town). That's it. Which data you want to expose on your profile is your choice. No abuse. Just your free choice. Donations: Yes, BW needs donations to exist. As Wikipedia does, as other non-commercial structures do. But not millions without any info for what, only several thousands with clear transparency. You can read all this in this group, there were hysteric reactions "oh, the same shit as CS!" before - and answers. Just do some reading before posting.

Best wishes

Krischaan

"What are the leaders of Bewelcome like?"

Very approachable. You can actually be a guest in their house :)

And actually, you could easily become one of these "leaders". The organization is very flat and transparent.

"What are the leaders of Bewelcome like?"

Why not write to elected board members and find out?

Stephane, worrying about BeWelcome may not be their priority, but not because one person asks a weird question, but because they themselves are their own worst enemy, as the latest website fiasco demonstrates again.

I googled and found http://www.bewelcome.org/wiki/Board_of_Directors

The page has links to the BeWelcome profiles of the 4 members of the board. You can write them individually and you'll probably get a response :)

Also note that there are elections for the board every year.

where? on bewelcome.org for starters. sign up, write a forum post. :) meet the tech crew on irc.freenode.net #bewelcome

please note that bewelcome is a volunteer organisation inspired by open-organisation principles, with no full time staff, no office, no phone number and an annual budget of 3000 or so eur.

so things will naturally move slooower than elsewhere. this fact alone can be source of frustration, so be prepared for that. patience and group-think abilities will be of advantage.

we intentionally have no dominant leadership, so you will need to address a bigger crowd with your questions and see who replies. the board will only be active as such during meetings obligatory according to french law and when really big decisions are to be made. the rest is up to a sort of do-ocracy and consensus decision making, which is working sometimes well and sometimes leaves some people unhappy.

i estimate that roughly 10 techies and 10 other volunteers are currently making regular useful contributions. they are all doing this in their spare time and get nothing but an occasional "well done" from the community in return, so be easy on them.

local volunteers don't really exist, mainly because the technical infrastructure for this has not been built yet. that's definitively something we should get into, if you ask me.

meinhard.
technical volunteer at bewelcome and bw member #202. ;)

: interesting

@ Yves: No happened it to me, was easy
and I felt comfortable in BW, so I could not understand you, sorry.

@ Krischaan
: Exactly! I fully agree

@ Kasper: Actually it seems as you say

@
Meinhar:
yes, I agree

Relax, guys, relax... we will not fight aboutr that. Im alreadu BeWelcome and I'm still a CS too: I'm
convinced because I have done very good friends in CS and some times
some of them have became close friends.
However, I think I'll find
most of them in BeWelcome as well.

I'm new CS from July 2011 but
I've had 60 Surfers at home with all of my ilusion, and I was Couched
by 25 host when I've traveled.

But Casey took with him my faith
and hope

Honestly, today, to me the best option to begin in a
clear way pass trough one organization as CouchSurfing was at the
begining, and in this case, I feel is BeWelcome, where I'll be able
to share ilusions again.

Here
you are the e- mail to the responsible if you wish to him, as I
did:casey.fenton@couchsurfing.org
Hope you are more lucky than I
was

But, maybe I'm wrong... :P
Warmly
