I'm moving to BW
Posted December 12th, 2012 - 2:02 am by from Belgrade, Serbia (Permalink)
To those who might concern.

Yes, I know I'm not long time user (have been here from July, 2012), so I'll understand if anyone of you don't give a damn about what I'm writing here, but first, let me try to explain some things.

I'm a drummer and I have played in a lots of bands since my early teens, and now I'm 27. I have played all around Serbia, tens of gigs and concerts, both smaller and bigger once. When playing in the band as your main hobby, it means you have to sacrifice a lot from your end and also to rely on other people you are playing with that they will give their best as well. Its a group effort, so everything you do, practicing, buying equipment, sharing/giving your money to other members for their needs and finally sharing small things, like drinks, food, etc. is something you do because: 1) You enjoy it and it fulfills your life; and 2) You share similar/same vision for your future and passion for the common interest.

Besides playing in bands, I have always been involved in activities that involve volunteering, group works and everything that is basically based on A PURE GOOD WILL and not on an amount of money I'm going to receive. If I'm about money, I look somewhere else.

Therefore, I joined C$ just because I felt that it was the right place for me where I can continue to have that satisfaction that I have while playing in a band, working as free lance, pay free journalist, camping, going to concerts, etc. C$ helped me to broad my experience! I felt that hippy vibe here! So, as soon as I joined here I met a lots of wonderful people, some with whom I'm still in regular contact with on daily/weekly/monthly basis.

I organized a lots of activities in Belgrade. Regular weekly CS meetings, parties, grills and so on... I hosted some people that stayed at my flat for a week or for a month and those are experiences that will always stay with me and memories I will cherish forever.

FB never interested me, never had profile there, nor I see myself opening it in future, near or far, especially when I realised how fascist is their ToU policy. I'm sad to say that C$ is FAR WORSE and I have yet to invent the word that is describing C$ closer than nazism or fascism!

I consciously decided to make a compromise with C$ policy by deleting 95% of the data and pictures and altering my profile information, I consciously decided to make compromise on MY privacy that belongs ONLY TO ME (of course CIA, FBI, KGB, MI5 are monitoring us, but none of us is Bin Laden or Jim Jones), just in order to stay in contact with wonderful people I met here.

As a regular organizer of happenings in Belgrade group I understand how much time is needed, energy spent and effort put to organise something like that. New "city group" board makes it even more difficult. And NOT ONLY that. The information on the boards are sharable on FB!!! That was the drop that overfilled my cup.

C$ members are flooding their "feedback forum" on how bad is new transition and what they are doing? NOTHING. OK, they do something. IGNORING.

I'm moving to BW and some of my friends are moving there as well. There's no emotional attachment to my profile or anything like that anymore. I had it before new ToU was taking place, but now, NO! Its like, you have a girlfriend/boyfriend, you separate, that's cool. You play in a band, leave or get kicked, that's cool as well. You have a wife/husband, you divorce, that is also livable.

Thank you C$ for all you did for me. I'm going to heaven now ---> BeWelcome.org where my friends are waiting for me. :)

Yes Julia, as Al already put it, whatever you post on the thread is visible on FB. I'm not using this "only for members" option simply because of possibility that I can exclude somebody from seeing the message.
I organized weekly meeting and this is the first time I'm not putting my ph nr.

BTW Great idea for opening the group for moving to BW. About time somebody is starting some actions!

Well, Milan, me and many others are doing the same. It is a process. C$ radically betrayed us all. C$ grew thank to us and then sold us. But we had built our travel-life here. If we just dissapear, we loose more than C$, and the idea is that we not loose anything, we want to remain the same huge community we already were.

If you have a look into Milan's profile or mine or Polyglot's or many others' you will understand how we are doing it. You can as well have a look into the group:
http://www.couchsurfing.org/group.html?gid=59753
and the proposals e.g. under "Let´s give us some common lines".

I would find legitime that C$ is what it is now... if it hadn't betrayed us. I will try to bring all people who feels betrayed to BW and work now for that other place, as I understand that Milan and others are doing as well. But dissapear from here is not the best way, but staying and letting the other to know what is happening and how we all can resist. ¡No pasarán!

The thing about FB is that, this is how I understand it, it is not going directly to FB, but some random member can click on the upper right corner, where "report" button is, there is "share it on FB", so it doesn't have necessarily to be you, but someone totally random that can share it on FB. There goes your privacy. Hahahaha... :)

@Balasz No, I'm definitely and completely moving to BW. I'm still here just because I can't move there just like that. As I already said, I'm having a lots of friends here with whom I can keep in touch through C$ exclusively, as I'm not using FB, so it will take for a while until I completely move to BW. It will take me a few months, half of year or maybe even a year, but I really hope it won't. Its like moving from one apartment to another. You just don't move leaving all the stuff from the old one. It takes some time.

While we are at it, I completely support the action of "mass movement" to BW, but not in January, its too soon. I suggest we postpone it for, let's say, March, April or May. I don' know...

@Lucas Exactly as you said so. Transition is not that is thing to do. We are moving from one to the another apartment. It will take some time to pack and transport things. :) BTW. Thanks for "ghostery" thing. Much appreciated.

"While the post stays on the conversation in default PUBLIC access it is available for anyone on the internet to access it. "

I raised this with Tony Espinoza on the forums. He claimed it was a bug that would be fixed, but I have my doubts.

Looks like the group has been deleted:

"Location: Other >> Leaving CS for bewelcome
Leaving CS for bewelcome
Sorry but this group has been deleted."

Would love to know who's that saying he's sorry.
