Unfortunately your profile picture probably won't be used as they seem to have some screening method, possibly face recognition software.

I don't know 95% of the people mosaiced at Belgrade group. Then again, that doesn't have to mean that they are not active, but I, as very active employee/exploit at CS inc., feel like I should know at least one third of my fellow exploited colleagues.

God and CS inc. only know how many lurkers, stalkers, perverts, voyeurs, butchers, car plumbers, abortionists CS inc. hosts in each of the cities.

Starting the ignoring process of Trollpkio.

Get to the subject and on general high presence of mentally highly unstable people among CS inc. employees/exploits: Whenever I go to infamous OCR all the girls, especially those with pictures like they are fucking escort or something, I see they get 3+ invitations.

The same goes for half-naked Barbie husband like bachelors that are also getting high amount of invitations.

I guess its a kind of fetish and spice to lure a foreign genitalia into your bed, but still you can date your own girls/boys from your own city.

Jeez... And I thought that lunatics are having non-stop fun.

Oh, we are switching on nationalities now?

Does living in Germany make you become "nazi", trolltard? Ha?

Given that you look like a random gypsy that is black as midnight in a fucking tunnel that is living among "krauts" I can only assume that you finally gave up and started to identify with your aggressor, you poor defenseless "nazi" idiot.

Alongside with lurkers, perverts and stalkers, these "graduates" are literally swarming this place.

Or, are you Trolltardpkio, all of it? Holy shit! How do you manage to be all of that at the same time? You must be some real brutal schizo case having Zoloft for breakfast and Duraperidol for lunch.

I guess the difference is that I am on Instant Communication (instant "digest" being another ideotic wording by CS for a complete copy of an individual post), while you seem to be subscribed only to threads in which you post, which is why your suggestion doesn't for for those of us who would like to get notifications of valuable content and not of the Kindergarten in this thread. Can you confirm?

As I assumed, it is not possible to unsubscribe from value-free posts while continuing to receive instant updates of all other group posts. So the only good solution is for people to be respectful of others by exchanging personal messages and ongoing back-and-forth I-need-to-have-the-last-word converstations private rather than conducting them in this group.

Yepkio, can you please try to maintain normal, civilized discussion without insulting anyone here? I paid attention to you, actually, to your posts few weeks ago, and didn't find a single one post by you that didn't, at least indirectly, insult, to not use word "troll", any other person present on this forum.

Am I, or for that matter, anyone else discussing here, guilty of the fact that CS became corporation?

POISONJJJ: " when i joined first, i've been impressed by the low level of trollism i found on this website compared with others"

True! I think its mostly because of that people are actually MEETING each other in real life that is keeping them within civilized boundaries. And also, because that people care about their self-respect and dignity, want it to be shown on their profile, so they can get the same treatment when they go abroad. "What goes around, comes around", you know.

Concerning the idea that CS is making a specific selection of photos for commercial reasons, I developed the following hypothesis:

CS would want to have about the same number of men and women in the photos.

To test the hypothesis, I used two locations, a French location, where I found that the number of men and women was about 50:50, and a Bulgarian location, where the ratio was closer to 60:40.

At the time I tested, there seemed to be 4-5 different screens for each location (one screen changed as I was working, I assume as one photo was removed by its owner). I found there was great variation in each screen (as would be expected statistically), but when I added all the images from all the screens, both cities reflected the sexual makeup of their membership, even though this makeup was different.

I suggest someone try with a city where the sexual difference in membership is even greater (where, I don't know - perhaps India?)

I also noted that many of the photos - when reduced to size - were hard to see.

So my tentative conclusion is that CS is not - at least on a widespread level - selecting more "market-friendly" photos, at least not when the photo wall was introduced.

Posted March 26th, 2013 - 12:45 am by from Belgrade, Serbia (Permalink)
Not sure of the statistics you brought here, but the combination of the photos are changing on every few hours. At least its like that in Belgrade place.

On the other hand, Belgrade has much, much more smaller community comparing to that of Berlin or Amsterdam or Paris, therefore pictures are repeating quite often.

I also noticed that they are displaying pictures from the profile, but haven't seen a single one picture from mine, even though I gladly and happly allowed them to do so. :)
Almost looks like all of them are handpicked. Though job to do and waste of money, if you ask me... :)

My profile has been set to be visible to members only and that setting had no influence on the mosaic. But CS rarely misses a bug it can come up with.

I have suspected them of using face recognition software to exclude profile pictures without a recognizable face from the mosaic picture wall. I discounted that thought when I eventually saw that there are such pictures. What I haven't seen are pictures with protest messages, so they must somehow intervene to exclude those.

you have your profile set to "visible to members only".

yes

when they introduced the mosaic, did you find a picture from your profile displayed there?

no

when you checked on "who are these faces?" the option "never show my prophile photo here" was selected or not?

no, but it is now and I don't remember putting a checkmark in that box. I have now removed it to see what happens. Of course there are a lot of pictures to cycle through in Paris...

Yah... Let's bomb the profile with non-sense pitures.

Posted March 30th, 2013 - 2:08 pm by from Dijon, France (Permalink)
"Of course there are a lot of pictures to cycle through in Paris... "

At least in smaller locations, the photos shown are not limited to the specific locality, but include the entire "grid" square(?). It is even possible this is enlarged further in certain localities.

While there may be some hand selection of photos in certain locations, it does not seem feasible on a CS-wide level, with more than a hundred photos for each location and thousands of locations.

Considering the small number of "message" photos, I wouldn't expect to randomly see them, except perhaps in some small locations. Neither would I expect to see my own photo. But it seems clear that from the photos displayed at least in some localities, no effective selection process, automatized or other, has been put into place.

Posted March 31st, 2013 - 4:10 am by from Belgrade, Serbia (Permalink)
As of yet, none. It seems like that. But I wouldn't be surprised if they don't care about selection at all. At least at this stage...
For example, you can see the "red square", but a lots of people, especially the new once, don't what is it and what it stands for.

I've heard that they soon will introduce new features like possible zooming of certain picture and entering the profile by clicking on it. That will certainly change A LOT!

I have just a look at the site of Belgrade and at least there they aren't (now) using pictures of little children, as they are doing in Berlin and Madrid:

Posted March 20th, 2013 - 12:11 pm by from Paris, France (Permalink)
What I would like to know is if CS is respecting profile privacy settings or expecting each member to opt out of this hall of fame individually.

Posted March 20th, 2013 - 12:19 pm by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
In the case of the children, they are just violating the law, and the law is even above their terms of use.

And the answer is NO, the pictures are visible as well when you are logged out. Just try it, copy the link to a faces-banner or to a picture of someone who should only be visible to members, log out and open the link. The picture is visible even if you are not logged in.

And have a look on this funny thread of Berlin, not all of it, just down, the contribution of StefanBo:

Trying to see how this all fits together.

I looked at Moulins in France. It is in the "Bourges Area" according to CS. Bourges is a place a hundred kilometers away and in a different Department and Region (like a different county and state).

It says Moulin has "94 hosts", but when opened that descends to "51 interesting people" if I'm looking for a "host". Or 63 looking for a "local". Obviously not enough to fill their photo boxes.

[In other cities I found the difference between "hosts" and "hosts" to be much greater, instead to 9:4, more like 3:1] For example, in Bourges, 698 locals descending to 478 hosts descending to 157 hosts when you actually look.

Lucas, the issue that all images uploaded to CS profiles are stored on the amazon servers and that they remain there and accessible even after the link is removed has been known for a long time.

It may or may not be the same for the colage banners on cloudfront.net. Have you been able to determine how often these are updated, and if an image has been displayed there after its profile owner has opted out? The test would be to identify someone who is in the banner, have him or her opt out and then see if the image disappears and how long it takes.

Posted March 20th, 2013 - 1:35 pm by from Paris, France (Permalink)
And of course displaying profile pictures from profiles set to be viewable to member only without login is a serious privacy violation that needs to stop immediately.

I don't know what browser you are using but in Firefox and Chrome I do not have access to the Place pages without being logged in.

The images are updated periodically, and it is possible that when the new banner is generated it leaves out any images from profiles which have opted out.

It is possible that the system is not reliable and privacy is violated, but so far we have not seen evidence of that.

That users should be aware that their pictures can be displayed prominently on the place pages if they don't opt out is another, still serious issue they need to address. Just having a little opt-out link on the place pages is insufficient.

These computer game experts still have a lot to learn, and a lot of work to do if they want users to trust them with anything.
