Could We Just Buy Couchsurf?

Feel free to tell me if this is a crazy idea, but if Couchsurf is a private company right now, couldn't we just buy it?

What if we pooled our money and collectively bought 51% of the shares? Then we could prevent the changes to our community that we don't like.

Would that work?

Hard to tell if it is even theoretically possible. CS share ownership is secret, as are any agreements they may have made about holding on to shares for a specific amount of time. Private investors have put in about $22 million for an unknown percentage of the company - perhaps 50%.

Start-up investors seem to bet on losing many of their bets and getting something like a 20 times return on their winning hands. Assuming they would sell for half of that, you'd need about $200 million. Since there are perhaps 200,000 active CSers, you'd only have to convince each of them to supply $1000 up front.

Please send me your $1000 and we'll get the ball rolling.

Don't spend any dollar in couchsurfing.

Put the money in bewelcome and like this we can support a good project and don't support private companies that the only thing that they want is money and our data.

I would advise against investing in a company whose name I can't spell.

Besides, from what he are told CouchSurfing International, Inc. has received investments worth at least $23 million, and from what we can observe is worth much less than that and decreasing by the day, yet another reason to stay away when one day they try to cash in.

What is it that enables CS? Not crash-pads, but iPads. CS is just an opportunistic app on a human mobile device. One leg is you, the other the service provider. Take-over is the goal; but the target is not the prols, but the pros. Think Zuckerberg, Big-Berg (GoogL), MS (Micro-Snitch).
ps: u heard it here first.

Well, if we were able to buy CS, and we actually got control of it. Then we could protect it. We could keep our community alive and prevent the changes that would hurt our culture.

If Fenton happened to get rich as a result of that-it would not make me happy- but it would not keep me from doing it.

As the expression goes -I don't want to cut off my arm to spite my hand.

Most people seem to think we would not have the money, and it would not work though. So the point is moot.
