Hiking in NY?
Posted August 21st, 2011 - 1:34 am by from Brooklyn, United States (Permalink)
I've moved to NY alone and I'm in search for people who like to do anything outdoors, including hiking. I'm in this beautiful city and am looking for people to help me explore. Is there anyone planning any fun hiking/ camping trips anytime soon? Need company?? :) Please let me know!

Hey Miss Mary,

I go hiking quite often with this group: http://www.meetup.com/New-York-City-Hiking/
There are terrific people on the group and the hikes are great, challenging but not totally crazy.
I won't be back in NYC until the end of September, but the group is open and free, you can join them any time.
Maybe, I'll see you on one of the hikes when I'm back in New York!
If you're into rollerblading, here's another great group for that: www.weskateny.org

Do you know what the plans are yet? I know I can definitely go for a day hike on either day. I can't go camping, unfortunately because I still haven't had the money to save up for camping or hiking gear! I've been pretty bummed about it. But, if by means of magic, you have an extra sleeping bag I can do it:) I certainly don't want to be a bother! Let me know the details, like who's driving. I haven't driven a car in over 10 years. I noticed you just started learning Hebrew. I just started a few weeks ago by myself and it's not the easiest language to learn.. I'm not Jewish, just in case your wondering or if my name didn't give it away, but I dated an Israeli not long ago and have been fascinated by the language since.

Keep me posted:)

Hello Joshua,

I cannot join on a camping trip either. I left all my camping gear in Belgium, it was too much to bring with me. BUT if you go out hiking for a day this weekend (Sunday) or any subsequent weekend I would love to join you.

Mary and Matthijs!!!!

Fancy gear is not necessary. We will be catching the train from Penn Station at 11:15am on Saturday arriving in Tuxedo a bit later and then hiking for 2-3 hours. we will camp out by a lake and all that you really need is a blanket/sleeping bag some water for the hike (a water purifier is being brought along) and some food/alcohol to share with the group. Flashlight, bug spray, camera, poncho and anythign else is optional of course. As for tent space we should have enough room and last time some people were happy to sleep under the stars as it was.

Let me know if I have convinced you and hope to hear from you soon.
