Looking for a bike!
Posted September 26th, 2011 - 7:00 pm by from Athens, Greece (Permalink)
Hello to all bikers here!
I am looking to buy a cheap (new/old) bike. Any suggestios/advice where I could search for? There are so many events and other here, but without a bike, or with a velib, its not so easy..

Thank you in advance..

I think you are lucky!

just check this market street next saturday for used bikes:

There was also one this past sunday, I helped selling around 70 bikes and we made advertising for the next one in the XIth arondissement next weekend for those who didn't found a bike. I think almost half of the bikes were for children, so that's not the easiest place to get a bike from, but there might be some opportunities if you arrive early.

Some small shops can have used bikes too. Like "gepetto et vélos" or "bicloune".

Or try on the internet, like here : http://www.leboncoin.fr/annonces/offres/ile_de_france/?f=a&th=1&q=velo

But if you don't mind buying a new, just have a look in a Decathlon store, that's cheap.

I'm surprised you still didn't found a bike during those 3 last weeks. I suspect you're not trying hard enough :p

You can also go to the flea market :

I don't recommend decathlon bikes, they're expensive and the robbers are looking for this kind of bikes.

You can also go in smalls shops. It's where I buy mine (Velo Services 25 Rue Crozatier, 75012 Paris). Try to get a special price also in the shop.

I also recommend to get an old bike and not a new one (the best way to lose it in one night!)

About the puce Saint Ouen I never found bikes there but maybe you'll get a second hand if you're lucky.

in paris i found bikes (even the old) were so much expensive.. maybe you should try to get one in a temporary flea market (vide-greniers) and of course, bargain!

If there is a possibility to bargain in flea markets, you probably won't be allowed to do so on those called "Bourse aux vélos" like the one on saturday, because you're not in contact with the seller, but with benevolants that have no possibility to decrease the price they agreed on with the seller beforehand.

The robbers are not looking for any kind of bikes, and neither new nor second hand, they're only looking for an easy opportunity.

2 close friends that got a bike stolen had second hand bikes, only one had a new. All of them were stolen inside buidings (cellar, garage) and not or pourly attached.

In french we say "l'occasion fait le larron".

But it's my opinion, there are no statistics. Saying that new bikes, or bikes from a specific brand are more stolen than others is also just a personnal opinion.
