Bike ride Paris - Rouen next saturday (august 27th) who is in?
Posted August 14th, 2011 - 4:57 pm by from Le Plessis-Robinson, France (Permalink)
Hi,

Next Saturday, i plan to bike from Paris to Rouen. I have done this twice already and this is a lot of fun.

Starting around 6am. (arg ...i know this is early)
The ride is 140km long. I am not a great biker so the speed will be around 18-20km/h (except breaks).
Last time i reach Rouen around 3pm.

The road is great with almost no cars, we ll ride through Paris, St germain en Laye, Vexin regional park, La roche Guyon, Giverny, Vernon, Les Andelys, Pont St Pierre, Boos, Rouen.
This is quite hilly and windy so this is not easy but not impossible if you are in good shape! Great memories garanties!

My parents own a house in Rouen. So we would stay there until sunday afternoon and we would come back to Paris by train (10 - 20 euros).
BONUS : On sunday morning I organise a brunch with the ROUEN CS communities.

Who is IN?

I am sorry i made a mistake this is NEXT SATURDAY! 20th!!!

sounds really great, julien!

I have only two problems:

1- I'm not sure I can do 140km in one day (this week I've rode 230km in the roads during 3 days: paris - dourdan - chartres - paris. And I must admit that the last of the 3 days, from chartres to paris, which amounted to 105km, was though!). but maybe I could do it, because it would be the first (and only) day biking...

2- the second reason is more complex, for I have two works to turn in, in the beginning of september and an exam to do, so I'll probably be busy next saturday studying =/

cheers!

Too bad I'm working from 6:30 am to 11:45am... :(((

Posted August 14th, 2011 - 7:27 pm by from Nantes, France (Permalink)
But if you stay at St Germain en Laye for lunch it should be okay... x)))

Posted August 14th, 2011 - 10:13 pm by from Le Plessis-Robinson, France (Permalink)
lunch time we should be around Vernon!

Too far away... Dommage...

Hello,

Posted August 14th, 2011 - 10:46 pm by from Paris, France (Permalink)
140 km je veux dire :))))

Posted August 15th, 2011 - 1:13 pm by from Le Plessis-Robinson, France (Permalink)

Posted August 15th, 2011 - 11:59 am by from Paris, France (Permalink)

Bonne route.

Hello Julien,

I'm also interesting by the trip, but I'm quite afraid that 140km is too much for me, but I use to make long distance (500km in 7 days)

I think that when we'll be in Rouen, we can take the train until Le havre for swimming ?

I'll tell you Thuesday if I join you.

Hello,

Thanks a lot for being interested by my trip!
Given your background, it will depend on your actual fitness. If you are in pretty good shape right now, you can try.
I also plan to organise the same trip but in 2 days with a night in a random field :) It can be a lot of fun and easier! With more time to see the differents cattles and nice cities.
Maybe middle of september!
If we start on friday night, we can even do 3 days ihhih!

Let me know!

Hello,

I have a VTC and I am in good shape but I never did a 140 km ride!
And I don't want to suffer for all along this trip (you said windy and with hill...).
So I have doubt for this bikking, I may be more interested for the 2 days you suggested. Actually I don't know, I have no clue because I would really like for goinf this week end...

If you want to rent a bike and plan to come with us i advice you to take a road bike or a city bike.
Have you ever made such trip?

Posted August 16th, 2011 - 7:13 am by from Montreuil, France (Permalink)
Hi,

There is always the possibility to stop before and finish by train (in Vernon for instance), or to start further for those who want to ride a shorter distance. It may be possible to arrange a 2nd meeting in St-Germain-en-Laye if someone prefers perhaps

I know I can stand the distance, but probably not the speed, especially against the wind. My bike is a rather heavy touring/city one (19kg + what we need to carry).

How much space do you have in Rouen Julien ? Shall we take sleeping bags, mattresses, tent, ... ?

Hi guys!!

I'm really interested in this trip!!
I'm fond of bike even if I don't practice a lot.
I'm not afraid of doing 140km a day but I'm not sure for the speed (actually I really don't know what is 20km/h in bike). But I'm in! I just have to deal with a friend because I've planned to spend the weekend with her (doing bike!!).
Ok so I'll tell you

Hello Julien,

If you make a trip in mid september, I think I'll join this group and not next satudray.

Just to say that I'm back to Paris the 12 september, so if you can wait until the friday 16th (I leave my office at 4PM), it will be perfect for me.

Hope to see you!

Hello Julien

Bon trip!:)

Thanks Hans,
I have to acknowledge that we got lucky with the weather during the trip and when we arrived to see the sunset :)

Maybe next time you ll be with us!

Bye!

Yep maybe, at least for the Paris by night ! :D
Later will be a bit harder, 'cause I'm moving near Saint Nazaire-La Baule in a couple of weeks...

It was a really nice riding/weekend!

And I'll keep "great memories" indeed ;)

Posted August 23rd, 2011 - 8:02 am by from Montreuil, France (Permalink)
Great ride and meeting on sunday :)
And yes we were lucky with the weather, only one sunburn on the left calf, as Julien warned us!

Here is an anonymized (because public) album and the GPS track (even if the GPS batteries died before the end) : http://darksysy.wordpress.com/2011/08/22/paris-rouen-by-bike/

Watch the profile, some slopes like La-Roche-Guyon are actually ridiculous compared to the 3 last : Val-St-Martin, Jaques Anquetil and Rouen. And crossing the Vexin was much hillier than I felt it.

See you soon

Hey,

Great report Sylvian!
I want a GPS too!!!!:)
Some extra information on the profile :)
