Hi Irene,

I hope you got a timely answer to your question and had an enjoyable Saturday evening.

If you're in the area for a while, here are my recommendations:

Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays:
Salsa with live band at Cafe Cocomo at 650 Indiana Street in San Francisco.

They also have salsa on Wednesdays but without live music and it was kind of slow on the one Wednesday that I went. It was still worth it.

On Fridays:
Free salsa (no band) at the Mint Leaf at 1513 Shattuck Ave in Berkeley.

Sundays:
Salsa (no band) at Allegro at 5855 Christie Avenue in Emeryville.

And if you're ever looking for company to hit the salsa party with, you know where to knock.

:) Cheers

I think that today has salsa in this address that you post. Are you going?

I hadn't planned on going to Cafe Cocomo tonight- I assume it's the place you're referring to.

But I'll consider going now that you mention it. I can confirm in the evening today.

Do you have friends coming with you? Do you know how to get there? Let me know if you have any questions.

Irene, you definitely should dance before you leave. There is not a live band at cocomo today. The Wednesday that I did go was slow but I found it worthwile because the few dancers who were there were good.

I know a few good male dancers. I'll ask them if they're going and let you ladies know. I'm also asking if they know of a different place with live salsa today. I'm still not sure whether I'll come. But I'll keep in touch and let you know what I find out.

Looks like salsa is no longer on your agenda for tonight. But just in case you were still interested, my friends tell me that the Downlow lounge in Berkeley has a live salsa band tonight. I've gone to their salsa nights before and they're decent.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have fun.

Again, let me know if you have any questions.

For Sunday nights in the East Bay(Oakland/Berkeley area) there is Alegros in Emeryville. It is a huge dance studio so it begins with an early lesson, but unlike most clubs it gets started much earlier. Over the years it has been DJ only but the amount of dancers is bigger than all venues except for Cocomos. I haven't been there in while since I'm from the south bay, but ppl have told me they have dedicated the back room to bachata which they say is always packed as well-it used to be another salsa room with its own dj. If you ever make it to the south bay Hot Salsa Friday (HSF) is a Bay Area salsa event 1st & 3rd Friday a month icon organized by the founders of the International Salsa Congress, Ricardo & Michelle's PB&G. People from all over the Bay Area come to that event which is in Campbell, next to San Jose

Oh yeah there's one more event in the east bay which is the Beat (2nd Friday of the month) in Berkeley organized by the salsa troupe Afinkao. It is a small venue with a concentration of performing/competing salsa dancers who come for open salsa & some bachata and cha cha dancing to dj. Some say it can be clickish, which it can, but it can also be very entertaining as well because of all of the talented dancers.
