Teach me to Salsa & Samba or Tango
Posted February 4th, 2011 - 7:41 pm by from Oakland, United States (Permalink)

I was wondering if someone can teach me how to dance to Salsa & Samba or Tango with a partner. I feel pretty much I can dance to almost any type of music when alone groovin by myself but dancing with a partner is a bit more different and I'd like to learn the proper way and later if I wanted to I could add on to it my own silly steps.
No offense.
Females only!
I don't think I can hold hands with a dude. Aach!!!

Hi Khalil,

There is a free salsa class at Ashkenaz tomorrow with the show (I'll paste brlow thr info from the site).

The band is set to play cuban classics and they are slower and easier to dance to. Usually there are a lot more girls than boys at the classes so you can take a pick :)
Saturday, 02/05/11

Doors at 8:00 pm; Show at 9:30 pm
Cuban Salsa dance lesson with Maria at 8:30 pm
$13 / $10 students (w/valid ID)

Since moving to the Bay Area in 2008, Havana-born singer Felix Samuel has gained attention for his work in such Latin- and Cuban-rooted bands as Los Boleros, Pellejo Seco, Tito y su Son de Cuba, and Jesus Diaz y su QBA, as well as Orquesta la Moderna Tradición. His father was the legendary “Sammy” Samuel, lead singer of Cuba’s revered charanga band Ritmo Oriental. Felix began his professional career at the age of 19 in Havana performing in Cabaret Paresien at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba in Havana. He went on to sing in many ensembles touring Cuba and Latin America. After stints in Europe and Mozambique, Samuel moved here and found featured spots in a number of bands. Now he leads his own group in performing the music he was born into, putting his own style on it.

Hello Maria,

Thank you for this info. Do you know if they have this free class every Saturday? I am not 100% sure if I can make it this Saturday as I may be hanging out with a friend.
Thanks again.

Hi Khalil,

Usually the bands performing at Ashkenaz bring their own salsa teachers. I am not sure when the next latin band will be performing there but I can keep you posted.
Can you send me your email address and I can add you to the newsletter I send out of gigs and classes for Felix every month - I offer the free classes for his band (well he pays me, but the classes are free for the audience ).
