Fitness Tip # 1: Mindset
Fitness Tip # 1: Mindset
Unless you're adopting the right mindset and attitude towards your own state of health and well being, you are always going to find excuses for your lack of fitness. You'll always blame everything and everyone for not reaching your fitness goals and will always find reasons to opt out of living a life worth living.
When one considers the significance that most people attach to their careers, family, financial status and social life, it is sad to see how little time and effort they devote to the one thing that is consistent throughout their entire lives - and that is the one and only body they are given at birth, and the one and only body that will be buried (or cremated) at the time of their death.
A few years ago, an inspirational lady called Linda Ellis wrote an amazing poem called "The Dash". In essence, the poem states that when we die, our tombstone will reveal two dates - the date we were born, and the date we died. These two dates are not as important as the dash - for the dash represents our quality of life we lived between those pertinent dates.
If all you do from the time you wake until the time you sleep is work, work, work, stress, worry, pay the bills, eat unhealthy food, and send the kids to school until they are old enough to repeat the same life cycle when it's your time to die, then what have you really accomplished? Too many people try to medicate their stressful lifestyles with expensive cars, houses, designer labels and fast foods, not realizing that your real wealth lies in the quality of your health. They sacrifice health for wealth, only later in life to spend that wealth to regain their health...and then they die.
Take the time out for yourself to start working out - whether it be inside a gym, or whether it be in the form of doing a regular hiking trail with a group of people with similar needs and wants. The power of association is so important when taking the first step and it always helps to have someone motivate you to push further as far as your state of health and well-being is concerned. Put yourself first and don't for one moment think you are being selfish in doing so. Invest more time and resources into a healthier you and build the body and mind that will help you live a quality life.
Improve the quality of the dash. Do it for yourself. Do it for your family. Do it for your friends. Do it for your country. Most importantly, just do it to start making a positive change and let me know the difference :)
