Ideas for travelers into Carnival
Posted January 10th, 2012 - 6:09 am by from Denver, United States (Permalink)
For those wanting to buy tickets to the actual event the best sections for seats are in sectors 9,7,11,5 and 3 at the sambodromo.
Carnival balls are held throughout the city with the most popular being at Copacabana palace, this is a super formal and super expensive event. But there are many modestly priced balls around R$40 at Rio Scenarium and Scala. These are only a few examples. Costumes are always a good idea but not necessary. Check out the Veja magazine for more details.
Other helpful Carnival websites that describe many of the events including the over 400 street parties are www.ipanema.com and www.rio-carnival.net

Hi Gabriela.

I am in Rio already and I went to some samba schools repetition.

I wanted to know if you had some tips about where to buy cheap samba schools souvenirs (tee-shirts, hats...) ?

Thanks

Doris

The street parties are free from what I have read. Lots of good beach parties as well. The balls are not free but they are fairly inexpensive.

For sure Jeremy, let's meet up. I'll be arriving on the 18th. Let's hit some of the blocos together that Gabriela has recommended.

Gabriela, thanks for all your advice. I'd be wandering in tourism traps if it wasn't for you.

Anyone want to join?
