I agree with James. Bring your smart phone, just keep it in airplane mode outside the states, and use the wifi. I found in most other parts of the world, access to wifi and/or computers is not as difficult as here in the US, especially in places where tourist may be whether on or off the beaten path. I would suggest doing a search of places in the area you are visiting to see if their are listing for cyber cafes. Also, search for couches a few months before your trip, and introduce yourself to prospective hosts. I have also found reading other folks profiles keys me in to local hangouts, places to eat, places to visit that might not be in a guide books. Hope that is helpful.
