How we want to get involved - join us!
Posted August 12th, 2012 - 8:47 pm by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
Hey all,
first of all wanted to say thank you to Sebastian, Valerie, Karl, Pedro and Funmi (in order of appearance) for joining and working actively in practical ideas.

Here's what we did:
- brainstorming more or less randomly what we wish to do.
- forming major topics out of those ideas.
- breaking those topics down to activities that can be organized on CS.
- choose activity that we ourselves want to organize.

Guys -we did really get some work done here! Thumbs up!

Funmi and Sebastian:

Organize Veggie Potluck Dinner before Fumi leaves Berlin. Would be great if a regular Veggie Cooking Class could evolve out of this. With cooking together at different houses trying different recipes.

Valerie and Karl:

Organize regular info-events in the form of a political or social discussion plus if applicable screening a movie dealing with the concerned topic - possible topics i.e. social traveling or sustainable hosting.

Verena and Pedro:

Check which self service bicycle repair workshop (non profit) needs help and organize collective CS bicycle repairing - plus taking part in Critical Mass with a CS group.

Verena:

Whenever I go to visit a social community project for my own association (we are in the founding process right on) I'll try to take as many interested surfers as I can to inform about easy volunteering options in Berlin.

Sebastian:

Is handling the communication and organization of different workshops with a variety of topics. He will probably need help looking for locations, experts and so on. Especially interesting was the whole topic of dumpster diving and recycling food.

Jess
(you couldn't join today but told me yesterday to pass on this information):
Jess would like to organize again a freebox - she was in charge of the freebox already in Bratislava and therefore has lots of ideas - but she'll definitely need help, too. Apart from the freebox a list with things that can be borrowed would be great.

You find our meeting and mentioned persons following this link: http://www.couchsurfing.org/activity/view/AS2Y5U/cs-berlin-sustainable-group-get-involved

However, there are manymanymany more ideas and topics coming up and it would be great if there were more people liking to get really involved:

Urban Gardening
: Guerilla Gardening or how to grow food yourself

Sustainable Hosting: show local markets to your surfers, only have cafe in community cafes, visit Volxküchen not restaurants

Learn how to sew and stitch and we'd like to join Elena in Mareschstr next time she posts her event.

I'm not sure where to put the bird poo collecting... ???

So whoever is willing to help = welcome! Already so looking forward to our upcoming activities!

Cheers,
Verena

Dear Berlin group,

it is so great to read about the successful meeting amd the many ideas you have!

@ Verena: thanks for organising, I will write you an email soon!
@ Jess: my dear friend, it would be amazing to have a Free Box also in Berlin!
@ everybody: all the best with the many activities!
I will definitely follow with interest what you are doing and if there is a way I can support (from distance), just let me know :-)

All the best from Brazil - I am celebrating 11 months on the road this week!

@ Pedro: As we wanted to first chck the self service bycicle repair shops here you find a list: http://fahrrad.wikia.com/wiki/Fahrradselbsthilfewerkst%C3%A4tten_in_Berlin

A senseship friend sent me this link http://www.refrat.hu-berlin.de/hubschrauber/main.php - I'll check it.

Which one did you go to last time? It was on Köpenicker, right?

Just found this thread - probably the best we can do: http://www.couchsurfing.org/group_read.html?gid=639&post=12893686 mentioning http://www.bikesurfberlin.blogspot.de/

I love it - any opinions?

Posted August 16th, 2012 - 3:16 pm by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
@ Verena & Pedro (hola!):
was about to make sure you knew about bikesurf - but then realized, Pedro, are you not half of it? running it with my former "half"?
also, i know some of the folks at the bike hubschrauber group - good eggs!! let me know if you need a personal contact to them
and there are several bike werkstatts just for chics - i am not usually into frauen power, but it is a pretty rad feeling being there...(no pun intended on rad)
@ all, is it not time we start a website quickly, just to list our activities, and ambitions? and a better way to communicate other than the thread? :)
what ARE our ambitions? :) sorry i/we the Bee missed the meeting - can we meet soon to talk about bigger vision and how to organize and tap into all that exists? we should really invite some Transition Town folks, and def Paul Sullivan...we have all been envisioning a centralized sustainable berlin somehow for years now...
maybe we do a meeting with a "round robin" of setting some vision and objectives and collecting all of our knowledge in one place?!
your knowledge management sherpa,
Kap

Kap - good to hear you have more info about the fahrrad-stuff. :) And all other: good idea! to really get everyone together who's in the universerse of "sustainable-berlin". You want to set a date or what's the next step?

Posted August 17th, 2012 - 11:39 am by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
hey all...
sure, let's meet up again soon - it seems there is some core "team", right? Verena you could tell us all better who seems in the core and really interested in giving a little time...
then maybe we have a meeting open to all those willing?
of course, we all have a bagillion projects, and it's summer...but...small steps :)
maybe a meeting where we could map out what our hopes/plans are?...i have some big butcher block paper...and we could pop up a free website while meeting, oder?...
and am happy to host chez moi.
Verena, you want to suggest some dates/times?

Hey Kap,

there's no core team so in my opinion everything is open to everyone from the beginning - and then maybe at the end of this whole process we'll have something like a core team. :)

Thanks for the invitation to your place! AWESOME.

Regarding date and times I'm not sure - but maybe we could establish something like a montly group meeting and then the next meeting could be arranged somewhen beginning of September. Maybe that could work?

If Paul and TT wanted to join maybe you wanted to check with them before? (Just an idea.)

@all: Any opinions?

Cheers,
Verena

OK...cool, so sounds like an open meeting again?
am happy to host on my lovely living room floor (everyone bring a pillow to sit on ;) )... I HAVE TWO CATS, though - so as long as no one is allergic terribly...
would be cool to do it sept 1st or 3rd: early evening...we could make a potluck out of it?
"potluck" - everyone brings something to share to eat. we need to steathily insert this word into the german lexicon...
any other ideas/suggestions?
lg
Kap
@ Verena, i am not in town sept 5th until probably 1 oct (italy is calling....bella...)...but if you have to meet when i am not here, Willem can hopefully come - or another Bee (i see there are several signed up in this group, wahu!)

Posted August 18th, 2012 - 8:51 am by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
PERFECT!

So what about the 1st of September starting somewhen in the afternoon? In this way we had as well the whole evening to *&%$§! :)

Btw: I love your website-idea - something like a hub, right?

So happy for Italy to welcome you in September!!! Atraversiamo! (That's the only Italian word I know.)

Posted August 18th, 2012 - 9:12 am by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
@ Verena, ok, so you want to make the event? i would love if you manage the event, but i am happy to host it physically :)
i will have 2 new roommates that day - they will be fully indoctrinated :)
and of course, we all know artaversiamo now, oder? giggle.

Sure - I can create the event but I'd be happy if you could help with the text describing what we want to do during that meeting (espacially about cooperating with TT and Paul and alike) and then I add more details. Deal?

Posted August 18th, 2012 - 8:22 pm by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
I think I could make a 1st of september organizational thingy :D

by the way, I will get on the discussion group organizing, hopefully the first one during this coming week! But I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a good day of the week to host it? I was thinking maybe Tuesday at 8, so no clashes with weekend fun or wed and thurs weekly meetings. though of course there is also the rotational tues meeting but hey, there's no real 'free' evening.

Anyways, opinions are very welcome!

Posted August 19th, 2012 - 9:02 am by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
heya Verena @ all!
so, for this 1 sept meeting, since there is no core team, maybe we wait until we are more organized to invite TT and Paul in - though knowing them, i can explain to people their initiatives and ideas...
for text, maybe just simply:
Let's meet up to discuss our vision and plans for the CS Berlin Sustainability Group! We will present some of the projects already existing, and our ideas for how to centralize information and activities.
Please bring something to share to eat and/or drink, a pillow to sit on, and paper and markers if you have them!
date: 1 sept, saturday
time: 18:00
ort: soldiner strasse 35, 13359
klingel: fagerlund/werntz
my cell: 0176 20686 978
(most of CS already knows this info, so it's not private - plus, makes organizing easier if it is posted here in threads and on activity! if someone wants to break in and kidnap me, i will risk that. ;) )
For project presentation, who could do this?
you: senseship
someone: homeless veggie dinner
? (is this Pedro who runs with G): bikesurf
Jess: maybe she can talk about what she has done in other cities and what Massi does/did?
ich & ?: food coop
?: stadtgarten (i could ask Tine - since she is the working link between coop and garten)
?

Hey everyone,

meeting/ activity created: https://www.couchsurfing.org/activity/view/BVAOGF/1st-monthly-meeting-cs-berlin-sustainability-group

Kap - thanks again for your apartment! :)

Maybe we could host the montly meeting every first Saturday - any opinions?

Posted August 31st, 2012 - 9:35 pm by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
Heeeeey,

soo, turns out I have a lot more work than I'd expected and will therefore probably not be at the 1st sustainability meeting...

but if it does turn out to be monthly I will make it at some point!

and sometime in september I will finally take initiative on some sort of discussion/information-type night :)

enjoy tomorrow!

Hey Valerie,

Tuesday evening sounds perfect to me and you are right - there's no free evening. In my opinion good choice!

See you,
Verena

all good stuff.

i thought 1st september is quite far for meeting, but if we do actual things before then, like on Tuesday, then will be ok :)

Hey guys,

sorry for being such a slow organizer! I feel that to have a really interesting, deep discussion I should announce a general topic and date earlier in advance - so for tonight it is too soon! I'll make an activity and post in the main Berlin and other groups in the next few days in advance of a meeting one week from now.

Take care til then!

heya Valerie, and all!
i am confused, why meet tues on the 28th when we have the 1st organized? :)

Hi Kap!

The meeting on the 28th will not be a planning meeting, just a discussion evening on a general sustainability-related topic for people who feel in a discussing mood!
