That is correct. Traffic through the northern part of Kenya into Ethiopia is a no go. Even if you venture across the border via a vehicle, it would be extremely dangerous, as would going in through Somlia or South Sudan. The bordering countries are not doing so well. You'd have better luck taking a flight from Nairobi to Addis Ababa. It's a short flight so it should be pretty cheap.

Hi all ,

although the situation in crossing from Kenya to Ethiopia is not that good . i know 2 women who cross the border to Kenya.

Morethan 2 Men also crossed safely .

I just mention this as an information not to encourage you to cross overland.

@ Kate the road inside Ethiopia alone take 2 days from Moyale to Addis Ababa. If you take your bus on timely.
If the road from Nairobi to Moyale take at least 1 day (?) . It takes you AT LEAST 3 DAYS . SO YOU BETTER CALL IT OFF THIS IDEA AND FLY TO addis

Glad to see you've decided to take a flight- safety first. I've lived in Addis on/off for 10 mos, do not recommend bus at all for mechanical unreliability and safety issues (Ethiopia #1 car wrecks in the world, terrible roads require 4x4s) and safety around the border areas.

Expect the flights to be expensive- as they typically are all over Africa. Even though it's a neighboring country and a 2 hour flight!

We paid around $500 each for a roundtrip Addis to Nairobi in October. (don't expect much of a price break for one-ways).

NOTE: you can indeed travel from Nai to Add via road - just not by (one) bus easily, nor guaranteed in a 2-3 day timeframe.
For the right price, you should be able to find an outfitter with a 4x4 to do this. But, since we are on CS website, I'm guessing the cost of that would be prohibitive...
