If your in dire straits

Yodobashi-Camera in Akihabara is your best option

Follow these steps:
1. Find the glass cabinet in the middle of the docomo area filled with sim cards.
2.say, (I am writing it as it sounds to help you pronounce it) sue-me-mas-en teh-sue-da-teh itah-dah-keh-mas-kah
3. point to the B mobile sim card ans say: wah-tah-shee-wah con-you coo-das-eye bee-mobile
4.pay for the sim card
5. take a photo of the english activation instructions that are hanging in a binder on the cabinet
6. go back to your hotel and use the phone to activate it

You now have 1 month worth of internet access on any unlocked 3g mobile phone (that works on japanese networks)

install skype, buy credit and use it to call

You wont receive calls as you will turn off the data when not using it most likely to save money. But this way allows you to make calls in japan from a mobile for about $30 a month rather then $15 a day (+$400 deposit) if you rent a tourist phone.

It is pre-paid you can buy another 1 gb data for $30 online in english.

I hope that helps

P.S try toread the "pronounced" words I gave you fast, it helps
