Travelling in January
Posted December 1st, 2012 - 2:14 am by from Istanbul, Turkey (Permalink)
Hello!

My friend and I are coming to Iceland in late January (29.01.2013 to be exact) and will be staying for 10 days. Do you guys have any tips about where to go, what to do and such? Would spending the whole time in Reykjavik be a waste? If you are around those days and want to do some exploring together, that would be nice as well!

Any tips and help would be appreciated!

Hello Melis. I don't know much about Iceland yet but I should be arriving in Reykjavik around 1st of February. So let's keep in touch so we see if we can do something together.
I want to travel around, not only in the capital, but seems like it's only 16 or 18 hours to go all around depending on the road conditions, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to travel and return.

Hey Anderson,

Yeah, lets keep in touch and see what we can do. We have booked our hostels in the capital for the whole trip but I guess traveling around it wouldnt hurt either.

Ten days is a long time just for Reykjavik. Of course you can make some tours from there. A friend will visiting me at the end of december and we rent a car to signseeing Gullfoss, Geysir.þingvellir is nice too. Even in the wintertime, icelanders told me. Snæll... oh I hate this name.. nationalpark. The area arround Kelavik.

For drivig to the North it could be too short. But o the East, Skogar, Vik, Icesea. May if you want to visit the island Hæmey(near Vik).

There is so much to see. And I you ind some one to share a car it will be cheaper. Because the bus is very expensive and the ring road card is just available in the summer time.

10 days is indeed a little bit too much for just Reykjavik. Try to rent a car/share/find an Iceland and see Reykjanes peninsula, Snæfelssnes peninsula (stay over at Stykkisholmur, it's really veru pretty!) and try to see the golden circle stuff aswell. If you still have time, the south shore is an awesome thing to do too. But be sure you're back in Reykjavik in the weekend (2-3 days should be enough to cover the whole city unless you just wanna hang in coffee places like hemmi & valdi, c is for cookie and babalu), because going out then is just a must! :)
