Transport in Iceland
Posted December 29th, 2012 - 7:37 pm by from Oulu, Finland (Permalink)
Hi everyone! So I went to book flights to Iceland for me and boyfriend for his birthday without thinking how expensive the country is (ooopsie!). Now we are struggling to find affordable accommodation and transport around the country. We are mainly interested in the main tourist attractions (Reykjavik, Geysir, Blue Lagoon, glacier). Could anyone give us tips on how to get around? We've come across some tourist bus companies, but what are the bus companies that are preferred by the locals?

And for bus company, an Icelandic friend of mine told me about this one to go to Akureyri but not sure where else they go

Im going to Iceland still for the first time, so havent had to deal with how to get around yet

Hope this helps

Taxis are really cheap, especially if you go in on the fare with others. They take plastic, and even though they don't ask for a tip (UNHEARD of in the US), it's nice to.

We ended up driving around the Reykjavik area in a taxi at 4 AM one Christmas morning and it was a blast! We all chipped in 500 kroner...I think we all kissed the driver too, but that's a little fuzzy. ;D
