Moving to Montreal from rural Hungary
Posted May 12th, 2013 - 3:33 pm by from L'Ile-Perrot, Canada (Permalink)

We are a family with 2 children (7 and 10) and I got a job in Montreal.
It's going to be quite a change: We are currently living in what I always thought was a "village": a small settlement with single-family houses spaced far enough to have a vegetable garden and a few hens laying eggs.

I gather this would be a zoning nightmare with an avalanche of health code violations in Canada, so we won't find anything like this within commuting distance to Montreal, right?

Anyway, when in Rome, we'll assimilate, just wanted to verify before giving up on it :-)

After some visa issues causing a long delay I am finally in Montreal!

Trouble is that July 1 is upon us, and I have to find a place to rent for my family.
We were looking at West Island, preferably along the trainroute (Pine Beach, Valois, Pointe-Clarie, Cedar Park, Beaconsfield, Kirkland, etc...)

So if anyone feels like tagging along or helping out in the search I'd be eternally grateful, I'll be doing this non-stop starting around 10am Friday throughout the weekend and the Monday holiday.

So here's what we're looking for

Besides being able to commute to downtown where my job is, my main concern is the wellbeing of the children (7 and 10 years olds)

We are looking for something with 2 bedrooms, house, townhouse (or ground floor apartment of something bigger) so the kids running around all day won't disturb anyone living below us.
We'd prefer lots of greens, a quiet street, and parks/playgrounds nearby.
The price should be around $1000, $1300 tops, less would be nice of course :-)

Our ideal is a large, well-lit kitchen, unseparated from a big common space, with only the bedrooms and bathroom walled off (or on a different floor), but it's probably not the right time to be picky and we'll just take what we can get, and search more thoroughly next year within the same schoolzone.
