Family of four living in Hiroshima and wanting to see a bit of Japan during the first two weeks of August

Hi there,

My name is Andres, originally from Chile, and I teach high school history and geography at Hiroshima International School. My wife Bao is from Vietnam, owns a massage business in Tanzania (where we lived for six years) and is currently studying Japanese. We have two boys: Sebastian is 9 and Etienne is 6. We have been couchsurfing for four years and have already hosted over 100 people and hope to continue doing so for a long time.

Other than a weekend trip to Onomichi, Okayama and Kurashiki, this will actually be our first extensive traveling in Japan. We've got two weeks and will be using the 18 Kippu train tickets, so we are pretty much willing to go almost anywhere in Central Honshu as well as Shikoku if you are willing to host us. At the moment, we are starting in Yamaguchi on 26 July, crossing across Shimane Prefecture to Yogano, Tottori Prefecture on the 28th and staying there two nights. After that, we are very open to suggestions. Of course we plan on visiting Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, etc. but we also really enjoy the countryside and out of the way places as long as we can get there by train. It's as much about the people we meet as the sightseeing we might do. We don't have to squeeze it all in one trip because we plan on being in Japan for at least another 3 years.

We are happy with a little bit of space on a tatami and will be bringing our own sleeping bags. If you have never hosted children before, it can be a bit noisy but a lot of fun! Having hosted and surfed extensively, I can honestly say that people enjoy the novelty of staying with or hosting a family.

Thanks for considering hosting/meeting us and please send us a private message if you have any questions. If you are coming to Hiroshima, we are happy to consider your requests as well. We live in a very pretty semi-rural area by the river and mountains that's only 30 minutes by train from Hiroshima Station.

Cheers,
Andres

We are now back in Hiroshima after three good weeks of surfing. Thanks very much to Yutaka and our eight other hosts. We are ready to welcome you in Hiroshima if the opportunity arises.

Cheers,
Andres
