from the $1.25-$3.25 meals to the yearly $1 fee for membership which includes a gym, the Carnagie is one of the best spots to hit up if your budget is tight. It is in the down town east side, so you are expected to show residents respect, but it has more to offer then anywhere else I have been.
Meal times breakfast 9-11 (I think) is ususally $1.25-$1.75
lunch is from 12 (30 I am pretty sure) to 1:30 and there is always a veggie option, all meals include veggie & salad or both, often dessert too for the cost of $3.25, though occasionally cheaper. They almost always have soup fo $.85, which includes crackers. Dinner is 5-6:30 and same idea as lunch. Fidays are vegetarian days. Some of the vegetables are organic grown in the DTES and portions are large and can be very generous with meat.
there is also a basic gym which is free with membership.
There is a library (tiny) but is lots of multi-lingual books.
There are other services such as free hair cuts & legal aid, ect but please keep in mind these aditional services are set up to serve the low income community who do need them and if you are simply cheap or too lazy to work.
